- “I... I’m sorry, Mom. I didn’t mean to,” Hazel said, her voice trembling. She stood awkwardly, her hands shaking as they gripped the corner of the dining table.
- Jessica snorted, her lips curling into an expression of dissatisfaction. She rolled her eyes deliberately before walking over to Erica, who was grimacing in pain. “Here, Erica. Sit down for now,” she said, helping Erica into a chair. Her voice was soft but dripping with sarcasm that stung Hazel’s ears.
