Chapter 48 The Restlessness That Haunts

  • The clock keeps ticking. Seconds pass by quickly, and now the hands of the clock show it's ten o'clock in the evening. Hazel sits on the bed, staring blankly at the bedroom wall. Occasionally, her eyes glance at the wall clock, hoping that time would stop for a moment so her anxiety wouldn't increase.
  • "Why isn't he home yet? Is he that busy?" she murmured softly. Uncomfortable feelings crept into her heart. Reluctantly, she reached for the phone on the table. Its screen was dark—no messages, no calls, not even the blue check mark from Theo, her husband, appeared. Hazel bit her lower lip, holding back the disappointment that was beginning to overwhelm her.
  • She stood up and walked out of the room into the living room. Hesitantly, she opened the front door, allowing the cold night air to seep into her body. Hazel stood in the doorway, gazing at the dark, empty street. There was no one outside, only the sound of the wind softly blowing, swinging the leaves on the trees around.
