  • Here are some of my thoughts: Jon is doing well. He is attractive, polite, and quite funny, and there is nothing wrong with him. But I am pretty sure I will not bother seeing him again. He failed a few tests: he did not make me laugh much, I feel like I am carrying the conversation too much, and he did not suggest the second drink. There is just something off about him, something that does not quite click... Of course, the big test is approaching. Later.
  • When he returns with the drinks, I ask him where he is from, and we start talking about Bristol, where he went to university.
  • 'When I was younger, I thought the line in Blame It On The Boogie was 'I spent the night in Bristol, at every kind of disco',' I recall. Jon smiles. 'In Bristol, there are two kinds of nightclubs. Those that are bad and those that are closed.'
