Chapter 20

• As the clock struck just past 5 pm, I groggily awoke to find Robert waiting in my doorway.
• ‘What the hell happened to you?’
• It feels as if a heavy bucket of sand has been forcibly shoved into my mouth. I struggle to sit up, my body swaying unsteadily. I attempt to say hello, but my voice comes out as a weak croak. After several failed attempts, I manage to bring a bottle of water to my lips. I drink greedily until I have no choice but to collapse back onto the pillow. God, water tastes good. So good.
