Chapter 4

  • I had not seen that coming and I looked him over from his head to his shoes in shock. No wonder I almost mistook one for the other.
  • “What?” was all I could say as he chuckled a bit before returning to sit back on the bed.
  • “I’m sorry if this is a lot to take in,” he apologized. “I can leave if you want me to.”
  • “Oh, no, no, no,” I sighed as I held onto his arm like he was the only person who could help me heal. “Please stay.”
  • He smiled before raising his hands as if he was surrendering.
  • “Are you okay?” he asked in concern. “You seem to have woken up to a lot of problems all at once. I knew I shouldn’t have let your parents in until you were fully awake.
  • “I told the nurses but they were too stubborn about it and said it was standard procedure. Now I’ve got you all angry and stuff. I do hope you heal without complications.”
  • “Can I tell you something?” I asked as it was clear I had not been listening to whatever the man had been saying to me. I had been cooped up in my own thoughts.
  • I was still trying to understand what had happened between Cheryl and Marcus. How they had found each other interesting and decided to get married.
  • Was she a replacement for him? Were they truly in love or was it something they had planned to do behind my back while I was still awake but they had not had the balls to tell me about it?
  • I had not seen my sister as a traitor before. It was difficult seeing someone who looked like me in such a negative light.
  • “Sure,” the doctor finally responded to my question as I leaned forward to talk to him like i did not want the walls to know what was going on between them.
  • “I was broken when I found out that my twin sister, Cheryl and your brother, Marcus were married and they had a baby,” I finally let that out as I felt like a lot of load had been lifted from my chest, however, it was not enough.
  • “I have been in a coma for three years and waking up to this was not on my list, I can tell you that much,” I sniffed. “I did have an idea when I woke up and asked my parents of Marcus that he must have left me for someone else.
  • “However, I had no idea it was going to be my twin sister. Do you even know how weird that is?”
  • “I can’t imagine,” the doctor muttered as I fell back on the bed, exhausted about everything.
  • “All my life I had always looked up to Cheryl. She was smart, kind and very resourceful, people would say. Growing up I had always been compared to her but never actually put in the same category with her.
  • “I always wanted to be like her. We were twins yet we were so different. While she was the gentle one, I was the loud and obnoxious one. The one everyone would warn their children about.
  • “I grew up like that and for that Cheryl had always been the number one person I would look at and aspire to be like. All my life, it has been like that.”
  • I heaved a heavy breath as I let my words sink in before letting silence engulf the room.
  • I was thinking of what to say and how to refine my words to not come off as crazy but since there was no such way to do so, I decided to let it all rip.
  • “You know, Marcus and Cheryl have been the most important people in my life. Somehow they had both betrayed me. It hurts to say it and I am ashamed that it had to come to this but I don’t know what to do about it and I am really hurt.”
  • “May I say something?” Taevon asked as I nodded.
  • “Of course you can,” I nodded as he opened his mouth to talk, but I interrupted him without a care in the world. “I don’t know what to say, you know. I hate myself for even trusting them one bit.
  • “It’s like they never even cared for me or about me. It’s almost like they only wanted me by their side as a piece of meat or something.”
  • He stayed still listening to me ramble as he really had so much to say to her but I had more to say to him as well.
  • He knew that I was hurting and he wanted to console her the best way he could but I also wanted to get things off my chest too.
  • That was looking like my way of healing.
  • “I should have cut my ties with them when I had the chance but how could I have done it? They were my family. At least one was my sister and the other was someone I wanted to be my life partner.
  • “I expected much from them both. I expected them to respect my position as a patient in a coma and wait for me. How could they do this to me?”
  • “May I…” Taevon asked again, this time his voice coming on strong as I ignored him again for I was not done.
  • “And can you imagine that my own father wanted to keep this a secret from me. What a shame I found out the hard way. Now all of them are culprits in this whole mess. I don’t care about any of them. They’ve already hurt me too much.”
  • Taevon, tired of hearing my rambles, stood to his feet as he took up a syringe which had a yellow liquid in it to plunge it into my arm.
  • “What are you…” I asked as I felt drowsy while he exited the room almost immediately. He had sedated me.
