Chapter 15

  • I smiled as she walked out of the room, closing the door behind her.
  • Following her direction, I walked to the bed drawer to open it and find my phone there. Tapping the side button, I found it to be dead.
  • “Well, isn’t that something,” I sighed while searching for the charger.
  • When I found it, I plugged it in, waited for it to light up and turn on before seeing that I had more than ten thousand messages.
  • “Whoa,” I sighed. “I guess I’m the popular kid now.”
  • The messages as I went through most of them were from my ex classmates and my friends from before.
  • I had seen most of them at the party downstairs so it was no biggie. Soon enough, I would fade into the background as everyone would get back to their normal lives.
  • I took out the card from my pocket to go through the number again as I dialed it into my phone to call it.
  • It rang for some minutes before dropping. An operator on the phone suggested for me to leave a voicemail but I didn’t want that. I wanted him to call me back.
  • Dropping the call, I laid in bed as I remembered that he did not have my number.
  • “Fuck,” I said as I dialed his number again, and this time he picked.
  • “Hello,” his voice came on strongly through the phone. He sounded different on the phone but I could only blame the network provider I was having. It was a shitty one. “Hello,” his voice came again as I decided to answer him.
  • “Hey,” I said back as I heard him gasp.
  • “You’re home already I presume.”
  • “Yes I am.”
  • “And how do you feel? Do you love seeing the outside world? It’s been three years.”
  • “Everything looks the same to me. Strangely enough, it feels like it was just yesterday when I headed out to get groceries for thanksgiving. It doesn’t feel like three years.”
  • “Do you have a mirror?” he asked. What a strange request from the man.
  • “Yes I do,” I answered.
  • “Take it out, I want to show you something.”
  • “You do know I’m the one who would be showing me whatever you want to show me,” I chuckled as he chuckled back.
  • “Just take out a mirror or stand in front of one.”
  • Obeying his words, I opened my wardrobe to see myself in the mirror and see how much I had changed. I had grown bigger and fuller if that was a word.
  • I was different. Looking at myself in the mirror, I didn’t look like Cheryl anymore, I looked different.
  • “What do you see?” He asked as I proceeded to answer.
  • “I see someone totally different. I don’t look like my twin sister.”
  • “Now does that look like the body of someone you knew three years ago?”
  • “I guess not,” I chuckled, turning around to check if my butt had grown. Nope, it was still flat.
  • “Look, I’ve got to get back to work. I’ve got emergency calls to attend to.”
  • “Oh yeah, I only wanted to set up a date for our meeting.”
  • “I see you’re not hallucinating,” he laughed. “Are you serious about this?”
  • “Hell yes I’m serious,” I almost screamed. “It’s now or never and I want it now.”
  • “Fine,” he said. It’s Wednesday today, how about we meet…”
  • There was no time to delay on this whole issue, I needed it done as soon as possible, “Let’s meet tomorrow.”
  • “Charlotte, are you sure?” his voice had a tinge of care in it. “Your body needs rest.”
  • “All I’ve been doing is sleeping for three years, I think my body has had the rest it needs for those years.”
  • “That’s not how it works medically but I’m not even going to get into the medical aspects of it right now. All I can say is that you should take your time to rest. That way you wouldn’t be drowsy or…”
  • “Taevon,” I called out. “I need this… please.”
  • There was silence between us for a few seconds as all I could hear was the sound of his breathing.
  • “Fine,” he finally said, breaking the silence between us. “I’m here for whenever you need me. Tomorrow we’ll meet up. I’ll drive to your home and pick you up.”
  • “Don’t do that,” I sighed. “I’ll meet you at the hospital.”
  • “What?! That is absurd.”
  • “Why are you so alarmed?”
  • “You might not have the strength to carry on the way you’re doing now. I’ll pick you up and that’s final.”
  • “And what if I refuse.”
  • “Then I guess we’ll have to reschedule until you’re doing better.”
  • “You can’t do this to me!” I yelled.
  • “Uh, yes I can. I accepted your terms and now I’m saying that you accept mine.”
  • I took in deep breaths. He was blackmailing me, a very smart move.
  • “Fine,” I sighed. “Ten o’clock. And don’t be late.”
  • “You’ve got it.”
  • With that, he hung up as I decided to lay in bed and think of how our conversation the next day was going to go.
  • I was getting married, but this time instead of me getting married because I was in love, I was going to get married for revenge. Marcus was going to pay for what he had done to me.
  • The pain of having to lose a lover would be his to bear not mine.
  • I tossed my phone aside to stare at the ceiling as I smiled at the evil plans I was hatching.
  • How I was getting married or when I was getting married was not the problem, but I did want him to see me on that day and feel the pain I was feeling now.
  • It was bearable because someone else was in the plan with me. Taevon was going to be the savior I needed and my ticket out of misery and I was going to take it without regret.
  • A knock on the door got me sitting up as my mother entered with a plate of chicken.
