Chapter 159 Danger Looming
- I stir awake to the persistent sound of my phone ringing. I didn't even know I left it on loudspeaker, my phone is usually on silent mode. My face is smudged across Zane's solid chest, his body is warm under the covers and I snuggle closer, he pulls me in too, obviously waking up due to the sound of the phone ringing. I wonder who could be calling me at this time. I am sure it is almost noon. It is Saturday, I have been here for five days and we have never gone to bed earlier than midnight or woken up before noon. It is a great routine, nothing feels better than sleeping in with your favourite person.
- Then Zane's phone starts ringing too. He reaches back for it, fumbling it in his half sleep as he drops it. It stops ringing at the same time that mine does, I am too interested in continuing my sleep to find it odd that anyone is calling me at this time. Or that Zane's phone too is being called at this time. It might not mean anything but in the five days we have spent together, it has been really quiet and tranquil with almost zero interaction with the outside world. The groceries he bought the last time would last us about ten days, all the other maintenance around the cabin is done by both of us. We snuggle closer and settle into the sleep again, barely a minute later, a loud bang at the door jerks us both awake at the same time.
- Zane looks at me to make sure I am okay, I stare at him with wide eyes, confused. In my five days of being here, we have never had a visitor. His closest neighbours are so far away that if there is a need for some communication between them, they just call.
