Chapter 109 The Altercation
- "I didn't know that." I say through hard gritted teeth. All I can think about is that they knew. They knew about what their son was doing. And they didn't do anything to rescue that girl. They probably turned a blind eye to it, encouraging Tristan to be bold enough to do what he did publicly. I have always wondered how he could be so bold that day. It wasn't just blind rage or anything like that. He seemed aware of what he was doing in the moment. What he exuded that day was a confidence that I can now interpret as the assurance that there was no consequence for what he did. Because it wasn't his first time.
- "Of course." Mr. Bryan says. He leans back in his chair, a smug look on his face. I can't tell his age because, like his wife, he looks young. Barely fifty. Handsome in a totally patriarchal way. He is the kind of man I don't want to grow old into. Rich. Powerful. Charismatic. Awful in the sense that mattered.
- "Mr. Bryan. I wanted to use this chance to ask about Shane. I haven't heard anything about him in a while. Is he doing okay?" I do my best to sound concerned.
