• The mocking pity of her tone jolts me awake from my disbelieving trance. I look up at her, the vindictive glint in her dark brown eyes is unmistakable. She is thrilled to watch me come apart like this.
• She knows she has hit on something raw and I am stupid enough to react so openly in front of her. I don't believe Daisy. Of course. It is clear to me that she is just trying to get a reaction out of me by being manipulative with close lies. In fact, it is very obvious. But, I simply can't help the irrational flare of insecurity and doubt that rears its ugly head up within me.
