Chapter 108 Shirley On Breaking Edge
- "Money? You think this is about the money?" Shirley asks, by her subdued tone, I can tell she is struggling to actually process Mr. Bolton's audacious foolishness. I can't tell if he is being serious or he is just trying to goad her for a reaction. But that surely can't be accurate. Isn't he here to beg for his son to be released? Why would he further jeopardize his chances by annoying the one person who can help him? It doesn't make any sense.
- "No. But you mentioned the financial costs. So I figured it is the one area we can help with immediately. I am sorry if I am missing something here, you have to understand this is new to us, no parent wants to be in this position." Mr. Bolton says. The man can't be seriously this obtuse. But judging by the unironic smile on his face, it is clear that he very much is. I still can't figure if he is genuinely unaware of the interpretation of his words or he is doing it on purpose.
- "Wow." Shirley looks properly stumped. She leans back in her chair. She casts me a quick disbelieving glare. I look back at her, hating that her anger is now spilling on to me. I invited her here for this shit.
