• My heart was beating so fast in my chest, I almost forgot about my leg and let go of the cane. “Daxx…” I called out, being a coward and not wanting to know what the other matters were.
• Daxx came in, then smiled. “Yay, for being up.” She looked at my leg, then pointed to the plastic on the counter. “I brought that to wrap it in, so you can shower.”
• “Thank you.” The emotion was so close to the surface, I could barely whisper.
