• The receptionist laughed mockingly and replied, “And I am his girlfriend?” She taunted, crossing her arms and looking unimpressed. Summer’s eyes welled up with tears as she looked up at me, confused and scared as she hid behind my legs. What the fuck was going on? I could feel my blood boiling as I clenched my fists, ready to confront the receptionist for her rude behavior, but I took a deep breath, trying to remain calm in the face of the receptionist’s hostility, and kneeled down to Summer’s level to reassure her that everything would be okay. “It’s okay, sweetie,” I whispered, brushing her hair back gently. “I am here with you, and I will make sure we find your daddy together.”
