Chapter 59

• After a few weeks of online classes, she was given an assignment that she had to turn in in person at Blair's fashion home. Kate worked hard day and night and spent her last pennies buying materials for her assignment. She decided to create two new designs from her old book. Since she didn’t have any machines yet, she had to sew by hand. She made two new friends: Royce McKnight, who had traveled from Kentucky in his truck, and Laura Kozinski, who stayed with her grandparents in one of the suburbs of New York.
• During the weekend, Laura invited them to a friend’s birthday party. Kate felt she needed to unwind a little and hoped Denzel would permit her to go, as she was on duty that weekend. However, on the evening of the party, Denzel didn’t show up, and after several calls from Laura and Royce, Kate donned a party gown and left a note for Denzel.
• Laura had driven Royce’s truck to a different part of town where the streets were filled with music.
