Chapter 44

  • The busy traffic of Manhattan had made a siege on Eva's car. She was going home after a hectic day, still managing to find herself over the past few days. She hadn't yet recovered from the thought of Denzel choosing a housemaid over her.
  • She still remembered that night as vividly as a clear sky. After they had the most explosive sex, Kate had interrupted with a buzz at the door of Denzel's house. Then, like a man under the spell of an enchantress, Denzel had left her and ran after Kate, almost naked. What was so special about her? She was just a maid—or was she more? Eva thought to herself.
  • Eva still wondered what was so wrong with her that Denzel couldn't see her. She only wished he could just love her, or maybe even care for her a bit, or pretend to show he did. But what was even more hurtful was the fact that she couldn't forgive herself for loving him so much, letting herself become obsessed with him. He was her first love, and they say such love always lingers almost forever. But she wasn't his, or anyone's, she thought to herself.
