Chapter 5 Have Some Sense
- As Luna turned away from her, Ariadne broke out in a cold sweat.
- Impossible. How did she know?
- She scrambled to her feet. Shoving the waiter's hand away, Ariadne fumbled for her phone.
- Meanwhile, Luna took Dax and Pax home.
- They immediately apologized to her once through the door, "Sorry, Mummy! We were wrong!"
- "What did you do wrong?"
- Luna crossed her arms and raised an eyebrow.
- "It's got nothing to do with Pax. On my way to the restroom, I saw Mr. Handsome, and we went to say hello to him."
- "He paid our bill just because you went to say hello to him?"
- Luna was skeptical because she did not have a good impression of Adrian.
- She had a feeling they were hiding something else from her.
- Noticing his mother's disbelief, Pax quickly explained, "Mr. Finch was on a blind date, and he didn't seem interested in the lady. He deliberately tricked her into thinking we were his sons. Maybe he paid for our meal as thanks for helping him."
- "Remember to return the money to him the next time you see him, okay?"
- "Mummy, do you hate him that much?"
- The truth was, he was excited when he heard Mr. Finch say they resembled him.
- He spoke so gently to them, and it was obvious he was fond of them.
- But why didn't Mummy like him?
- Sensing Dax's upset, Luna knelt and hugged him. "Do you like him that much, Dax?"
- "I just think he's a nice person. And he looks like our dad."
- "And does he like the both of you?"
- "Of course he does!"
- Dax hurried to respond. "If he didn't like us, why would he hug me?"
- "Have some sense, Daxton Smith! He was trying to trick that lady he was with."
- Pax was wise beyond his years. He understood that even if they liked Mr. Handsome, he wouldn't be selfish and make Mummy uncomfortable if she didn't like him.
- Dax looked down at his feet, not saying anything.
- Luna sighed internally and said, "Fine. If you really do like him, I'll just have to be careful with what I say about him next time."
- "I'm sorry, Mummy. I really like Mr. Handsome. But I won't bring him up anymore if you don't like him."
- Realizing he was being stubborn about the matter, Dax quickly apologized.
- Luna patted his head. She felt like she had been too stern about it.
- "It's okay. Mummy was wrong too. I want to apologize to both of you."
- "I'm sorry. I was angry because I felt he said some rude things towards me."
- Dax blinked and said happily, "Then next time, if we meet Mr. Handsome again, let's be nice to him, okay?"
- "Sure!"
- Luna nodded. Little did she know the opportunity would present itself soon enough.
- Arthur received a call from Adrian after leaving the restaurant.
- By the time he reached the hospital, the surgery was done.
- Arthur clenched his fists at the sight of Old Mr. Finch lying in a sterile ward. "What happened? I told the bodyguards to take Grandpa home straight away."
- "Grandpa told the bodyguard to buy some desserts that Grandma used to like. It happened right after he left."
- Adrian felt a shiver down his spine as he watched Arthur's face darken. He sensed an impending storm.
- Two minutes later.
- Arthur pulled out his phone. His dark eyes were still staring at the ward. "Have you contacted Nancy?"
- "We've reached her assistant. They said Dr. Nancy may not be taking on any more cases. She has some personal matters to attend to."
- Arthur's expression became even grimmer.
- "Then raise the offer. If ten times the price isn't enough, make it a hundred. Tell her assistant that the Finch family will do anything she wants as long as she takes on Grandpa's case."
- "Don't worry, Arthur. I'll call them right away."
- "Arthur, you needn't worry too much about this. Grandpa is stable. We'll just have to be more careful next time."
- Instead of lightening up, Arthur said sternly, "Grandpa is old. The surgery needs to be done as soon as possible. I don't want something like this to happen again."
- Glancing at Arthur, Adrian sighed inwardly.
- Grandpa had become stubborner than ever since Grandma passed. His health has been getting worse day by day.
- The doctor attributed it to him missing their Grandma. He had grown uninterested in everything. This was also why his health declined so quickly.
- Adrian suddenly remembered something. He carefully broached the subject with Arthur: "Arthur, the doctor mentioned that if Grandpa's mood improves and he has something to look forward to, it might positively impact his health."
- "Get to the point!"
- Arthur impatiently cut Adrian off.
- "Do you remember what I told you about those two children?"
- "What do they have to do with anything?" Arthur's tone softened slightly when Adrian brought up the two boys.
- "They looked exactly like you when you were young. If you bring the kids and their mother home, it might make Grandpa happy, and it might even help improve his condition."
- Arthur stared at Adrian in disbelief. Adrian blinked back at him like an idiot.
- "Are you taking Grandpa for a fool?" Arthur retorted.
- All he'd need to do is a DNA test, and he'll find out the truth. Why even bother lying?
- "But the doctor said if this continues, he'll just get worse. All Grandpa has ever wanted is to see you married and have children. We can keep it hidden for now, and once we find Nancy to perform the surgery, we can come clean!"
- Adrian leaned closer and asked teasingly, "Arthur, are you sure you haven't had any children we don't know of?"
- "Of course not."
- Arthur said firmly. He would remember if he had children.
- Adrian rubbed his chin. It was puzzling.
- If they weren't his children, then how is it possible for them to look exactly like Arthur when he was young?
- Adrian frowned at Arthur. Arthur snapped, "Why aren't you asking yourself if those children are yours?"
- "Stop joking around, Arthur. I know I flirt around, but I can count the number of women I've slept with with one hand. Besides, those two boys were around five to six years old." Adrian scratched his head and said bashfully, "Back then, I was still a virgin!"
- "So, should I congratulate you?"
- Arthur waved him away. He pulled out his phone and opened a message from his assistant. "A good Samaritan saved Grandpa at the shop. I sent someone to retrieve the surveillance footage. We should thank whoever it is."
- "Okay!"
- Arthur replied. He examined the photo of the girl on his phone and frowned, "It's her?"
