Chapter 2 Child Abuse Is Against The Law
- Luna took a cab with her two sons to her friend's house. Her friend's house was incredibly opulent.
- They could see the beautiful Crownford skyline from the thirty-second floor.
- Her phone rang. It was Luna's best friend from overseas and the owner of the apartment, Greg Lawson.
- She smiled when she saw who it was and answered the video call request, "I've just arrived at your place."
- "What do you think? Do you like it?"
- "Living in a penthouse apartment free of charge. What's not to like?"
- Luna gently touched a vase. Greg saw her pouting through the video call and gently asked, "When will you return home?"
- "We'll see. I have no plans to yet."
- Greg knew Luna was probably tired from the flight. He didn't take up too much of her time and hung up within a few minutes.
- Luna opened the fridge to find it empty.
- She called her two sons and said, "Pax, Dax, we're going out to pick up some groceries."
- "Sure!"
- The boys immediately followed Luna.
- It didn't take them long to reach the city's largest and busiest shopping district.
- As soon as they entered the grocery store, both boys grabbed a shopping cart each and kept pace with Luna.
- "Mummy, I want that Minion."
- Luna looked up at the Minion toy. It was just out of reach. She stood on her toes and hopped a few times but still could not reach it.
- A tall figure approached her from behind. The toy was already in her hand before Luna could turn to see who it was.
- "Thank you…"
- Luna turned. She had to arch her neck to see the man's face. He was wearing a tailored suit. He was extremely tall, and there was an air about him that screamed, "Stay away!"
- He was extremely good-looking and couldn't help but draw the attention of everyone around him.
- Instead of looking at Luna, he bent down to look at the two boys.
- They were both still pushing their shopping carts. On top of that, their hands were full of other items that didn't quite fit into the carts. They even had things hanging around their necks.
- Arthur was about to leave but changed his mind and turned back to Luna.
- "Ma'am, child abuse is against the law."
- "What?" Thinking she might have misheard him, Luna rubbed her ear.
- "They may be your children, but making them carry heavy items while your own hands are empty can be considered abuse."
- Her sons immediately defended her. "You're mistaken, sir. Mummy isn't abusing us. We do it because we want to."
- Luna frowned at him. "What makes you think you can make baseless accusations just because you helped me get a minion? What evidence do you have to prove that I abuse my children?"
- "Isn't this obvious enough?"
- Glaring at Luna, he waved at all the shopping the boys were carrying.
- He didn't know why he was sticking his nose into their business. It wasn't like he liked children. But these two boys brought out the protective instinct in him.
- Luna chuckled when she saw the shopping hanging around her sons' necks.
- "Sir, have you never helped your parents carry their shopping before? If you think that constitutes abuse, you need to see a psychiatrist."
- "Completely unreasonable!"
- Arthur didn't want to argue with her.
- Luna wasn't about to let it go that easily, but Pax and Dax stopped her. "Mummy, don't you think that that man is good-looking?"
- Luna poked Dax on his forehead and said, "What do you mean good-looking? He is hideous!"
- "Mummy, you're just angry because you had an argument with him."
- Pax said, and Dax nodded in agreement. "Mummy, I think he was handsome too. And he looks rich. He could totally be our daddy."
- "Can both of you have some standards, please? He just said I was abusing you, and you want him to be your daddy? Besides, so what if he's handsome? Mummy wants someone with lots of money!"
- Luna wasn't shouting, nor was she whispering, but Arthur heard her from the other side of the shelves.
- So she was trying to land herself a wealthy husband!
- Arthur's impression of Luna worsened. Grabbing a box of mints, he went to the counter to pay. While waiting, he pulled out his phone to find several messages waiting for him.
- He played the voice message sent by Adrian and frowned.
- 'What a coincidence. So did I.' He replied.
