Chapter 6 If She Let Her Go On, She Would Only Be Left With Hurt

  • Adrian stared at his phone, which showed a video of Luna performing acupuncture. Her forehead was creased in concentration, and she looked very focused. "Don't you think this is outstanding, Arthur?" he asked.
  • "Luna looks really cool when she does acupuncture," Adrian continued. "Honestly, I would've thought she was just putting on a show if it wasn't for Grandpa."
  • Arthur didn't respond. His eyes were fixated on the needle in Luna's hands. He was reminded of the information he had gotten from the spy. Nancy was a local—she used acupuncture techniques in surgery to achieve the best results.
  • "Arthur, what are you thinking about?" Adrian asked, patting his brother's shoulders.
  • "If it wasn't for the fact that she's a mother to twin children, I'd want to pursue her," Adrian blurted out.
  • "Are you thinking straight?" Arthur remarked, surprised by his brother's words. "Even if Grandpa agrees, I wouldn't agree to let you marry a divorced woman."
  • Adrian pressed his lips into a thin line, clearly unhappy with what his brother said.
  • As Arthur leaned against the wall, his phone rang.
  • The spy had more news about Nancy.
  • "We have confirmed from Nancy's special assistant that she will be arriving in Crownford this morning. However, the details have been deleted, so we cannot find more information."
  • "Have you told them we will pay a higher fee?"
  • "Yes, we have. But Nancy's assistant told us that she is also having trouble contacting Nancy. They will get back to us as soon as they can."
  • Arthur tightened his grip on his phone as he hung up. He looked grim and determined.
  • Noticing the subtle changes in Arthur's face and Adrian said timidly, "Arthur, you've been searching for Dr. Nancy for a long time. You're no better off than me."
  • "Leave…"
  • "Nancy, they said they're willing to pay any amount, even ten times the market price if we agree to the surgery," Luna's assistant said.
  • Luna clicked her tongue in annoyance as she lay on the sofa. "Is he insane? My surgery costs seven hundred thousand. Does he have too much money to spend?"
  • She took a bite of her apple and scoffed at the man.
  • She only did three surgeries a week and wasn't about to break her rule. She had no intention of doing so this time either.
  • "He seems to be in a rush. Why don't you take a look?" Luna's assistant suggested.
  • Luna shook her head without hesitation. "I've completed all my surgeries for the month. I'm not in the mood to talk about work right now."
  • "I understand," her assistant responded. "I'll let them know."
  • Luna cleared her throat. "Is anyone else looking for me?" she inquired with an arched eyebrow.
  • "Who are you referring to?"
  • "Nancy, are you referring to the prince from Yvil, Harvey, or the president of the underground boxing association?"
  • Before her assistant could go on any further, Luna quickly ended the call. She knew that if she let her go on, she would only be left with hurt.
  • As she was scrolling through the news, Paxton and Daxton approached her. "Mommy, there's no water in the washroom," Paxton muttered meekly.
  • "No water?" Luna asked, rising to her feet. She marched over to the bathroom and saw that the water had been cut off.
  • "Mommy, I want to take a shower," Daxton chimed in.
  • "Why don't we use the bucket to shower?"
  • "Sure, I'll get a bucket of water from our neighbor. Stay here, and don't go anywhere!"
  • The twins nodded their heads vigorously.
  • After retrieving two buckets from her kitchen, she headed to her neighbor's house and knocked on the door. She knocked for a long time, but no one answered. It seemed like no one was home.
  • She went to another house with two buckets in her hands and knocked on the door.
  • "Hello, is anyone there?" she called out.
  • She knocked on the door again.
  • "Who are you, and what are you doing at my door?" Adrian demanded, his fists clenched tightly.
  • Luna turned around and smiled at him. "Hi, I'm your neighbor…"
  • Adrian's eyes widened in recognition. "Luna?" he asked.
  • "Mr. Finch," Luna responded, nodding in acknowledgment.
  • She stared at Adrian for a moment before shifting her gaze to Arthur. What a small world.
  • "What are you doing here?" Arthur asked, pointing to the two buckets in her hands.
  • She awkwardly scratched her head and answered, "The water supply has been cut in my house, and I tried knocking on my neighbors' doors, but no one was home. I thought I would try my luck here."
  • Adrian opened the door and enthusiastically invited her in. "You can bring your clothes here to wash, too," he offered.
  • "There's no need for that," Luna rejected. "I just need a few buckets of water. I'll get it checked tomorrow."
  • Luna could sense that Arthur was staring at her the whole time.
  • "If it's alright with you, we can help you take a look," Arthur interjected with an indifferent voice.
  • "I would be glad if you could help! Thank you!" Luna chirped excitedly. She didn't feel bad for getting his help, as she had helped him before.
  • After all, it was late, and she needed to get her twins showered and put to bed as soon as possible.
  • Adrian chuckled, "I'll let Paxton and Daxton come to our place to shower while I help you fix the problem. It's getting late, and I'm sure they need to sleep soon."
  • "I really appreciate your help, Mr. Finch!"
  • Seeing how caught up they were in their conversation, Arthur couldn't help but feel uneasy and displeased. Was this woman trying to hit on Adrian, even though he didn't seem interested?
  • Arthur suddenly pulled Adrian aside and volunteered, "I'll go help you fix it!"
  • "Arthur, I thought you hated fixing…" Adrian muttered, but his words trailed off when he was met with Arthur's icy gaze.
  • He quickly changed his demeanor and tone. "Luna, my brother is really good with fixing stuff. You can go get your kids over here. My brother will be there with the tools soon," he notified, grinning from ear to ear.
  • "Sure," Luna responded. She didn't expect Arthur to volunteer but was grateful for his help. She took the buckets, returned home, and sent the twins to Adrian's house.
  • Arthur followed behind Luna with the toolbox. As soon as they reached her house, Luna led him to the bathroom.
  • "There's no water in the house, but I've already paid my bill. Can you take a look and see what's wrong?"
  • "Is the water valve here?"
  • "I'm not sure. I just moved in today."
  • Arthur went to find the kitchen.
  • They stood together in the bathroom. Luna frowned when she saw that the toolbox was still closed.
  • "Don't you need to take a look?" she asked.
  • "Nope. You forgot to turn on the water valve. Once you turn it on, you'll get water."
  • He turned on the water valve in the bathroom. With a loud 'whoosh,' the water suddenly started pouring from the showerhead.
  • 'Puff, puff, puff.'
  • The water poured vigorously, blurring their vision as it flowed down their faces and soaked their clothes.
  • Luna rubbed her eyes with one hand, turning her body around as she reached out her other arm to turn off the water valve.
  • Arthur lost his footing and grabbed Luna's wrist to steady himself.
  • He landed on her, and their lips met in a hard kiss.
