Chapter 7 The Rescue- Book One
- Later I decided to approach Bryden alone in his office. “Mr. Weston, I was wondering about a plan to save my mother? You know the longer we wait the more in danger she is.”
- He stood and bowed addressing me as, “Your Highness?” I know he called me by my formal title to remind me of who I am. “I am completely aware of a timeline to rescue the Queen. But it is also my duty to protect you.” He placed the paper down that he was reading to focus on me. “And you are no way ready to be able to control your ability for a full rescue. After all, we have no idea if you can control it to travel with another person.”
- “There is only one-way to find out. Teach me that technique now.” I was more than asking; I was just about demanding him, using my royal status. Two can play at the Royal game. I stood there straight and unmoving just looking at him.
- He nodded his head as he said, “You really are your father's daughter.” He sighed. “Alright let's get on with more training.”
- “I said no!” Galen said as Bryden informed him of the training. I just stood there glaring at Galen. “It is far too dangerous, and we cannot risk it. If anything goes wrong and she doesn't make it out safe, there could be no union or peace.”
- How dare he! This is my mother, and I cannot sit still and do nothing when I have this ability to save her and bring her back safe. I was now getting angry at Galen. I couldn't hold back any longer.
- “Who do you think you are??” I spoke and all eyes turned my way. “This is the second time I heard you speak to your dad like this. He is your father, not your servant. If you are so concerned about my safety, then why don't you be the one to come along on this rescue mission.” I turned to look at Bryden. “Is it possible? Could I teleport more than just one other person?”
- Bryden began to rub his face in thought.
- “Over three hundred years ago, there was only one who had the gift of teleporting more than one at a time. I never heard of any other doing it since. To be honest Rayana, I have no idea if it could be done.”
- “But there is a possibility, right?” I asked still persistent.
- He looked at me and answered.
- “The other person I was speaking of is one of your great grandfathers of many years. If there was a chance of another multiple teleporter it could be you. We can only test it out first. But no Guarantees.”
- I looked at Galen who was still quiet from my outburst, and I can tell he is now seriously listening. “Are you willing to train with me?” I asked him.
- “As long as it is local here and nothing dangerous, Yeah I will train with you.”
- I smiled at him and turned to Bryden, “Okay let's begin training.”
- Outside it was cloudy and cool, and the four of us are ready for my training. I invited Kieran to train with us as I needed to see if I could teleport Galen and one other. Bryden is my instructor and observer to make sure it works.
- “Now Rayana I am needing you to focus...See that spot over there by the boulder?” I nodded yes. “Good I want you to try and teleport over to that boulder and back to here.”
- I closed my eyes and pictured the boulder, and when I opened my eyes I was there...Yes, success. I again closed my eyes and I was where I started.
- “Good, Rayana. You need to continue to always focus and try and see the target, from point A to point B.” Bryden was pleased. “Now let us try with another person.”
- “I will do it,” Galen said quickly.
- “Okay then. Rayana, to teleport with another person you will need to be touching that person. It will not work if you don't touch, so with that said, Galen stand in front of Rayana. That's right. Now hold hands.”
- My hands tingled at his touch, but I looked him in his eyes as he looked in mine.
- “Okay good. Now Rayana foc....”
- We were gone, and when I looked around, I realized we were in the cave with the gateway.
- “Why did you bring us here?” Galen asked me. Looking into his eyes, all I was able to think of was the first kiss, and I guess it brought us here. I looked back at Galen and said, “At least it worked. I teleported us both.”
- He sighed, “Yeah that it did, but Rayna you need to focus on the destination. Now can you take us back?”
- I took a deep breath and took hold of his hands again. Looking again in his eyes, he did something I wasn't expecting. He kissed me again, then said, “I am proud of you for doing it.”
- I smiled and focused where we began and then we were there.
- “Well I am not going to ask where you teleported to, but it wasn't where I wanted,” Bryden said as we appeared back.
- “I am sorry, that was my fault, I didn't focus well.”
- “Well focus, you have to always focus. Now let's try with three. Over to the boulder and back again. Focus Rayana.”
- Kieran, Galen and I held hands again, and I focused on the boulder now, and zap we were there! I couldn't believe it I teleported all three of us to the boulder. I smiled so big with excitement. “I did it!!!” I shouted in glee.
- “Okay great now teleport you three back here.” Shouted Bryden, and I did.
- Kieran all excited exclaimed, “That was exciting!”
- I turned to Bryden and asked.
- “Alright now we know I can do it...when do we rescue my mother?” I was ready to go.
- “Easy now, we need to talk about this first.” Galen now spoke up.
- “Talk about what? This should be easy. I teleport us in, grab hold of my mom, and we zip back here!”
- “We need to talk about the possibility of guards watching her cell, Rayna.”
- “What guards? Each time I saw her, I saw no guards.”
- “That does not mean there wasn't any.” He argued.
- “Galen is right. We need be careful.” Bryden defended Galen. Kieran stood silently watching the banter between us when she finally spoke up. “I have to agree with Rayna. I saw and felt how fast she can teleport, and I feel it could be done quickly with no one knowing.” She then looked at Galen. “And you will be there with her to protect them. Galen, Rayna knows about you. She knows you are a shapeshifter.”
- Galen looked at me. “You know? How?”
- “I saw you that day. You were the white wolf.”
- He looked at me and sighed deeply. “Alright, we will try it your way... and I will be with you. But you listen to me.”
- I smiled and kissed his cheek which took me, and it seemed everyone else off guard.
- Back in the house, we all were preparing for the rescue. I was getting so excited about getting my mother back safe and sound. I would be lying to myself if I said I wasn't a little scared about the possibility of something going wrong, but I would do anything for my Mother.
- “Okay, are you ready?” Bryden asked.
- I took a deep breath, took hold of Galen's hands and answered, “Ready.” I then closed my eyes and focused on my mother.
- “Rayna? Galen?” I heard my mother whisper.
- I opened my eyes and there she was. I then heard a noise outside the cell as my mother stood up and ran over to me. I grabbed hers and Galen's hands my back to the cell door then I focused on Galen's home. When suddenly, I heard the cell door slam open. I then saw a bright flash hearing a laser sound. Suddenly, I felt a burning through my back, and I began to fall as we disappeared.
- “Rayna!” I could hear Galen shouting as I tried to open my eyes. When my eyes began to focus I noticed we were outside a strange looking place. Really colorful and different from earth. Nothing like what Kieran described. “Where are we?” I whispered struggling to breathe and feeling a searing pain in my back.
- “Rayna, I need you to focus and take us back to the Weston's cabin.” What? That is where I focused. My eyes were growing heavy. “Rayna, do you understand?” I didn't but weakly nodded anyway. I suddenly felt Galen left me from the ground and I felt someone else hold my hand...My mother. We got her, but I feel so weak and the pain was excruciating.
- I could now hear her sniffle like she was crying, “Don’t cry mom.” I said weakly then tried to focus on the cabin, then darkness.
- When I finally came to I was back in my room at the cabin...I smiled. “It worked.” Then I groaned in pain and my mother was there right beside me. “Mom.” Tears began to slide down my cheeks. “I missed you so much.”
- “Oh Rayna, you took such a big risk to come get me.” She carefully hugged me. “We could have lost you, we did lose you. It was good thing Luziann has the gift of healing.” She hadn't stopped hugging me. “Baby, when we got back you stopped breathing in Galen's arms. He was so frantic and screaming for Luziann; she came over rubbing her hands together and touched your heart. You began to breathe again.” My mother was crying too.
- “I had to come and rescue you, mom!” I sniffled, “I can't lose you too.”
- “Oh baby, you have no idea how important you are. Even more important than I am.” My mother loosened the hug and looked at me. “Rayna, you are the one who can bring peace to our world. Not me, You. That is why I had to leave your father and our world to hide you away.”
- “Why me? How can I bring peace?”
- She looked at me and just said, “It is not your time to know, but please try to understand two worlds are counting on you.”
- A knock came softly on the door. “Come in.” My mom said I looked up to see Luziann peek around the corner of the door.
- “How is my patient feeling?” she asked and entered carrying in a mug. “Here, I need you to drink this to finish the healing process.” She carefully helped me to sit up and drink the hot liquid. She encouraged me to drink it all, and I obliged. She set the mug down on the nightstand and asked my mom to help me up, so she can take a look at my now bandaged back.
- I felt the bandage tape pull away from my back and she felt carefully around the wound. It still hurt, and I moaned a little. She placed a clean bandage over the wound after applying some ointment on it and said, “It is looking better. The pain should go away once the medicine I just gave you takes effect. It won't even leave a scar with the herb mixture I placed on it.”
- She picked up the mug and dirty bandage that she took off me and said, “I will let the others know you are doing better. You still need to rest for a couple of days; the wound was a deep and serious one or my healing touch would have healed you right then and there.”
- I grabbed her arm before she left. “Thank you so much for what you did. You all have come to mean so much to me.”
- Tears came to her eyes. “Oh dear, you mean so much to us too.” She patted my hand on her arm and left shutting the door behind her. I lay slowly back down and felt suddenly sleepy.
- “Just sleep now, darling.” My mother said as she kissed my forehead, “You need to heal…” Was the last words I heard as darkness overcame me.
- Next time I woke Galen was sitting there in the chair next to the bed sleeping. It was night-time and in the soft glow of the nightlight, I began to study his features. He was so handsome. His chiseled perfect nose; those thick long dark lashes fanned against his cheeks.
- My eyes drifted down and lingered on his pouty sultry lips, remembering the feel of them on mine. I closed my eyes at the thought and took a deep breath and moaned softly in pain, when I opened them again, he was now awake and looking at me. He leaned close to me and set his elbows on the edge of the bed and spoke quietly as not to wake the others.
- “You took a big chance and we almost lost you.” Then he smiled, “And I am proud of you, but please don't ever scare us again.”
- “I am sorry. I really am. My mother means so much to me.”
- “And you mean too much to us.” He took my hand and kissed it looking me in the eye. I felt a teardrop slid down my cheek at the thought of what I must have put these people through. He must have seen it because he stood and sat on the edge of my bed and he carefully, lifted me in his arms and held me. The way he held me I could hear the beating of his heart. It was very soothing to me. He kept kissing the top of my head and cooing soothing words to me; it all felt so right being in his arms.
- I must have fallen back to sleep because the next time I woke, it was daylight, the last thing I remembered last night was being held by Galen. I was feeling better today when I heard the door slowly open, and Kieran peeked in. “Hi, come on in,” I said sitting up carefully and noticed a tray she was carrying.
- “Something to eat. How are you feeling today?” She asked as she set the tray down on my lap.
- “Feeling hungry and feeling better. I am so glad to see you Kieran.” And I was. I began to eat the delicious looking food, and we talked about all that happened. To keep up appearances Kieran kept attending school and told everyone I was sick. Then she told me about how Jason is still his not so normal self. “I just don't know what his problem is. I am sorry Kieran.”
- “Don't worry about it. Sara and Amanda treat me well. They miss you too.”
- “Yeah, I miss them,” I said while taking a sip of my drink. “Has your mom said anything about when I can get back to school?” I asked hopefully.
- “I asked her, and she says in a couple of days you should be healthy enough to attend. Oh, and I have your missing work right here in this folder. This way you can catch up on what you missed.”
- “I appreciate all you have done for me, Kieran. You are a good friend.” I smiled at her.
- “I am glad after all this time we finally got to meet and get to know each other.” She said smiling at me.
- “Me too. I am happy.”
- Back at school, my friends gained up on me with a bunch of questions.
- “Rayna, I have never known you to get sick. And I have known you a long time.” Sara was the first who ran up to me followed by Amanda. I looked around and didn't see Jason. “He hadn't gotten to school yet.”
- “Who hadn't?” I said knowing full well that Sara knew I meant Jason.
- “Jason. And the strangest thing is he is a complete total stranger anymore. He has distanced himself from us. I don't understand what happened to him.”
- “That is perplexing. Maybe we need to sit down and talk with him. See what is bothering him.” I didn't like what is happening to us. We all grew up together; all my friends mean a lot to me.
- “You know I heard him yesterday mention not coming to school today,” Amanda said as we walked to class.
- “Then I suggest we go to his house after school.” I turned towards Kieran. “Are you okay with coming along this afternoon?”
- “Galen plans to come pick us up after-school as usual.”
- “Kieran, this is important to me. I will explain to Galen. We will head out before he gets here.” I could tell she was not okay with it, but she reluctantly agreed.
- When the last class let out, we four met outside the cafeteria and left to head to Jason's house. He didn't live too far from the school, so we didn't have far to walk.
- Once there I knocked on his door, and his dad opened. “Is Jason home?” I asked, “He wasn't in school today we want to know that he's okay.”
- His dad looked at each of us, and his gaze lingered on Kieran. “Yeah, he is fine, but he is not here and won't be back for two weeks.”
- “Two weeks! He never mentioned to us he was going out of town.” I said, “Where had he gone?”
- “He went to Washington to be with his mom.” He answered, “She had gotten back some disturbing news about her health.”
- “Oh, I am sorry. Can you let him know we were here asking about him?”
- “Yes, of course, I will. Thank you for coming by.” And with that, he shut the door, and we stood there looking at each other.
- “Well, that is that. I guess that would explains his sudden mood change.” I said as we began to walk back towards the school.
- “Yeah, his mother is sick...poor Jason.” Added Amanda.
- “But I wonder why he didn't feel like he could tell us about it?!” Sara said, which made me wonder as well.
