Chapter 5 Divorce and Marriage
- Gloria used this opportunity to ask for a divorce with Craig, and it was obvious that Maria rejected her request. So she just went to the hospital to accompany her father for a period of time. Looking at how tense the two of them were, Maria thought that it would be a good idea for her to leave for a while so that both of them could cool down first. So she asked the maid to pack for Gloria and send her to the hospital.
- As Gloria was staying with her dad in the hospital, she was recovering from her injuries and thinking of ways to escape too. The night before she made her move, her father suddenly went into shock. After eight hours of operation, Daniel’s life was saved, and he was transferred back to his ward. Gloria was alone by his bedside, silently crying. She knew that she could not bring him away now because he would be dead without his life support. Maybe this is my life? No! I won’t give in. Once my dad gets better, I’ll bring him away from here!
- She came out of his ward wanting to get some fresh air outside of the hospital; she was feeling dizzy from staying awake for the whole night. But she could barely move a step; her vision was getting blurry. Suddenly, everything went dark.
- When she was awake, she realized that she was on the hospital bed, and there was a doctor standing by the bedside filling out a report. She got up and asked weakly, "Doctor, what’s wrong with me?"
- The doctor saw her awake, and he put down the report. The way he looked at her was weird. "Mrs. Ramirez, you fainted because you haven’t fully recovered from your injuries and you’re not resting enough. What’s more, you've been pregnant for two months." So, his last sentence was the main point.
- Everyone knew that Craig had been in a coma for the past two months. Hence, they thought that Gloria cheated on him. Since when has such a powerful man experienced such humiliation before? I pity him.
- Her face turned pale, and she mumbled, "I'm... Impossible! How can it be? It’s only one time."
- The doctor was sure that she had an affair, judging from her reaction. The doctor coughed and adjusted his glasses awkwardly. He then asked, "Mrs. Ramirez, do you want to inform the Ramirez family by yourself? Or do you need me to do it?" This private hospital was practically funded by the Ramirez family; they were the main source of income for the hospital. So they would never hide such big news from them.
- "N… No! No way!" She stopped him without hesitation. The doctor was shocked at her reaction. Well, it’s only normal for her to react this way; she’s ugly, yet she cheated on Craig. Erm, this will surely turn out to be havoc. And the innocents might be harmed too.
- Gloria was deep in her thoughts at the moment. First of all, she was pregnant with Craig’s child. Secondly, she did not cheat because she somehow ended up having sex with him. But she knew that he was a cruel man; he wanted to take her life twice, and she did not think that he would spare her child. What’s more, there’s nothing in between us. How can we afford to raise a child together? I can’t keep this child.
- After coming to this conclusion, she felt disgusted and wanted to vomit. She dashed to the bathroom to puke. This reminded her that she vomited back in the Ramirez Manor when Craig was strangling her. So, it may have been my pregnancy reaction by then, and because of it, my life was saved. Maybe my baby was saving my life. Maybe this is our fate! How can I possibly harm my own child?
- After pondering for a while, she finally made up her mind that it would change her life. She told the doctor that she would settle it by herself, so he should pretend as if he did know to perform this checkup on her. She threatened him that she would take her own life if he exposed it, and he was not the one who discovered the bad news about the Ramirez family. So he agreed with her.
- She did not dare to run away after knowing that she was pregnant. Her body was weak, and there were signs of miscarriage. She must save her baby and also wait for her father to get better. She secretly got some prescriptions for her baby, and she packed her things to go back to the Ramirez manor.
- As she was pregnant with Craig’s child, she felt at ease living at his house. Hmph! He’s the one who forced himself on me and got me pregnant! He can at least do this much for me.
- She was scolding him as she was walking to the hospital lobby, and she looked up and saw someone. It was Craig; she could never forget how he looked! She got worried seeing him here; she was afraid that he would find out about her pregnancy.
- But she calmed down after seeing an unfamiliar woman standing beside him. The woman was in patient attire, but she still looked great in it. Both of them seemed to be compatible with each other. Before she could guess what their relationship was, the woman suddenly held his waist and hugged him; it seemed like she was crying.
- Gloria suddenly understood that the woman was Craig’s lover. No wonder he’s reacting badly when he sees me, because he loves someone else. She looked at the woman sympathetically, and she prayed to that woman. Because loving someone as ruthless as Craig would surely be physically abused by him...
- After a short while, Craig came out of the hospital looking grumpy. But he had no place to vent because, after all, he owed that woman a fiancé. She was the lover of his driver, and they were supposed to get married last month. But he got into a car accident two months ago, and his driver, James Howard, protected him by changing the direction of the car. Because of James’, he was not crushed by the truck, yet he lost his life. James was not only his driver; he was also one of his most trusted subordinates. And he barely met his fiancée, Jenny Lawrence. He wanted to visit and comfort her today and make some compensation for her. Yet she asked him to marry her because she said that James was loyal to Craig until the moment of his death.
- Realizing that Craig was unhappy, Eddy said, "Mr. Ramirez, it was obvious that Jenny was trying to emotionally manipulate you; you should just ignore her."
