Chapter 28

  • TashaI can’t believe that Hayley married a billionaire and a drop dead gorgeous one at that too! When she told me she was going on a date I never expected it to turn out like this. She’s married! She doesn’t deserve this, I do! I should be with Xander. I’m so much prettier and I’m more sociable. I would fit in so much better in his world. She didn’t even introduce me to him properly at the wedding but that will change. I will find a way to come between the two of them. Xander will be mine. If it were anyone other than Xander Dominic, I would have let her be, even been happy for her but she doesn’t deserve this. I've had a crush on him for years, every female has. I will make things work in my favour. “I will never get a chance like this again,” I whisper to myself as I dial Keith’s number. “Hello Keith, how are you? It’s Natasha from the lab. Hayley’s friend.” “Oh right, hi Natasha.” “I know you must be confused as to why I’m calling you but it has to do with Hayley.” “Hayley? Is she ok? Did something happen?” How the hell does she get these fools to care about her? “No she’s fine, I just know how close you were to her and I know that after all this time she still had feelings for you. I know it’s not my place but did you know she just got married?” “What? Are you kidding me? She hasn’t been seeing anyone since we split. There’s no way...”“I’m afraid it’s true. I only called because I think she only did it to get over you. I know what happened between you guys but I also saw the way you used to look at her. I think you wanted things to turn out differently but everything just snowballed? I don’t think the guy she married is the right guy for her and I guess I thought it only right to tell you. What you do with the information is up to you.” “I don’t just care about Hayley. I love her. If she had given me a chance we wouldn’t be here now. I would be with her but she was so damn stubborn I knew she wouldn’t forgive me so I took the easy way out and I regret it to this day.” “I knew you had deep feelings for her.” “Thanks for the heads up Natasha. I will deal with this. How the fuck can she marry someone else?” Hayley It’s my first day back at work and Xander insisted on dropping me of today, despite the fact that he works nowhere close to where I do and he doesn’t need to be in the office nearly as early as I do. I am secretly thrilled that he wants to give me a lift. I literally got on my knees and thanked God this morning for Xander and the turn my life is taking. I have never felt this cared for in a relationship before. Everything between Xander and I, is so natural and I’m usually the one that’s awkward around guys, it takes me ages to let my guard down but with Xander it’s different. He pulls over in front of my building and I lean over to kiss him goodbye because despite the short time I’ve known him, I feel comfortable enough doing this. OOf sharing affection and knowing it will be reciprocated. Xander deepens the kiss and groans, “Do you really have to go to work?” “Afraid so handsome... but just think about all the things we can get up to after work....” I say as I give him one last kiss. “I would rather be doing all those things I’m thinking of doing right now babe.” I laugh and get out of the car. Xander waits till I use my disc to scan into the multi storey building before he takes off. I am so loving my life right now, I think as I grin to myself. As I enter the building I see a group of my work friends waiting to greet me. “Welcome back Hayley!” “Thanks guys, It’s nice to be back” “Hmm... I’m sure it is... if I had that hunk of a husband waiting for me, you would never find me here!” says Callie as she winks at me and hugs me. I invited most of them to my wedding and they were still going on about how extravagant it was and how well everything went. All my friends wanted details about everything. It wasn’t long before we had to go to our different departments to start our work day but not before I was forced to promise to share everything about my new life with my friends over our tea break. As usual work was hectic. We continually had staffing issues and an increased workload. TThe corporates higher up were dragging their heels hiring new staff. The consequences were that we the existing staff had to bear an increased workload and it was taking its toll on everyone. It was only my first day back and I was already mentally and physically exhausted by the time it was time to take a break. I grab my extra heavy lunch bag which chef insisted on packing for me and try to find a seat in the already packed canteen. I open the bag and peak into the pink lunch container to see chicken pasta with a creamy white sauce... yummy, pasta is my favourite. I place the pasta in the microwave and set the timer for a minute before I press start and take my phone out of my pocket to check my emails and messages. Five miss calls from Xander and a bunch of text messages. I greet a few guys that walk past me and dial Xander’s phone number before placing the phone to my ear. “Hayley... why haven’t you been answering my calls?” “Hey, what’s up? Did something happen?” “Nothing happened. Am I not allowed to miss my wife? You never answer my calls or any of my texts, I was worried.” I smile into the phone, “Aaaw, I missed you too Xander. Sorry I missed your calls, my phone stays on silent in the lab because we aren’t allowed to take personal calls at work. I only saw the missed calls now.” “This is why you don’t need to be working.” I laugh at that. “You laugh, but I am not joking Hale.” “Hmm, did anyone ever tell you you’re the best husband ever?” “Nope, I'd be worried for you if they did wifey.” “I only have a half hour break and chef’s pasta is calling to me. See you at 3pm?” “Sure babe... and put your phone of silent.”
