- “Elara,” Damien said again, his voice firmer this time. “We need to talk. I can’t keep running from this.”
- She glanced at him, her heart skipping a beat. His expression was unreadable, his lips pressed into a thin line. He was hiding something, she could feel it, but now wasn’t the time to press him for answers. Not when their lives were on the line.
- “What is it?” Elara asked, trying to steady her breathing. “What do we need to talk about?”
