Chapter 23 Beneath The Name

"It is quite evident that you harbor resentment towards the king's mate," Selene observed, her eyes fixed on the doctor who wouldn't dare meet her gaze. "Why do you think I would harbor such feelings towards the king's mate, Queen Selene?" Isabella asked, stealing a brief glance at the queen before returning to her task.
"It's apparent that you don't care for the girl. You love the king, and I couldn't help but notice the sadness in your eyes when I mentioned the king's Mate in your presence," Selene countered, challenging the doctor to deny the truth in her words. "I don't know what you're talking about, but I can assure you that my intentions towards the king's mate and the king himself are pure," Isabella defended herself against the queen's accusations. She was careful with her words, knowing that Queen Selene wouldn't hesitate to take her life if she uttered anything inappropriate.
"Then why did you rush to the king's side as soon as he summoned you?" Selene inquired, watching the doctor remove the old bandage from her leg, apply ointment, and replace it with a fresh one. "Queen Selene, the king requested my presence, and I came running to him immediately. Who am I to disobey the king's orders?" Isabella replied, offering a slight smile to the queen mother.
