Chapter 9

  • Ember was confused why Liam wanted to talk to her in private. Since she arrived here Liam never showed interest in talking to her, much more in a private place like his office. She knew that his office and his room were the same. It was just separated by a wall, but have connection doors.
  • Moreover, he always made her feel that she was not welcome in this place and that he doesn’t give a fuck as to what she was going to do.
  • She went to shower and changed her clothes first since she was bathed in sweat after the training. Ember was debating whether what she will wear in front of Liam.
  • “Why am I doing this?” Ember shook her head and pulled on the first shirt her hand got hold of and put it on. She never really paid much attention to her looks. She doesn’t care whether she wears the nicest dress in the crowd or not, until now.
  • As she made her way to Liam’s office, Ember was really nervous. Her knees were like jellies. She never got nervous when she was in the field to fight, but Liam was the only one who made her nervous like this.
  • Ember tried to calm her raging heart as the stood in front of his office. She doesn’t want him to hear the fast beating of her heart. It’s quite shameful to be this nervous in front of Liam. It’s not like something will happen while she’s inside his room. And he’s still in love with his dead wife!
  • She blew out a heavy sigh to calm her heart before she turned the knob to open the door to his office.
  • She was welcomed by the dim lights of the room. Ember frowned when she smelt the fresh scent of a male shampoo and body wash as she stepped inside the room’s premises. The scent was so strong that it sent a tingling sensation to the deepest part of her body. She blushed at the thought but immediately brushes it away.
  • Did he take a shower before he talks to me? She asked herself.
  • It makes her heart beat even more than it already has. She’s confused and at the same time, all of her nerves were awake due to excitement. Amber couldn’t understand it. She’s not even attracted to this werewolf, she even hated him. She shouldn’t feel excited and tense being inside his room.
  • “Liam? Are you here?” She opted to call him, but she knew that he was inside the room. She can hear his breathing and the beat of his heart. It was fast and he was like hyperventilating.
  • Ember frowned when she noticed that there was something wrong with his heartbeat.
  • She alerted her senses and sniffed the scent of his body so that she can locate him. She almost close her eyes as his scent sent tiny tickling sensations into every part of her body, especially her center.
  • Fuck! She’s close to being turned on by his scent. She was getting there, actually.
  • “You don’t have to sniff my scent.”
  • Ember was snapped back from her sensual thoughts when she heard his baritone voice from behind her. She automatically turned, only to be baffled by the sight behind her.
  • There was Liam, the Alpha of Bresmont, famous for his undying love towards his dead Luna, standing in front of her, half-naked with only a small towel that covered the lower part of his body. Beats of water were cascading down his body and it made her mouth dry just by looking at those droplets of water.
  • Ember’s jaw dropped at the beautiful sight of Liam. Her eyes couldn’t help but roam on his broad shoulders down to his ripped abdomen. It was the first time that she saw him like that. His whole upper body was painted with beautiful tattoos, from his chest and arms down to his abdomen.
  • She swallowed the invisible lump in her throat as Liam took a step forward, making him stand just inches away from her, invading her personal space. His scent now was even more evident now that he was so close to her. It’s a mixture of fresh shower liquid and something more primal.
  • What’s that smell? Ember wondered what it was. She was sure that it came from Liam.
  • Without saying anything, Liam raised his hands, and using his fingers he touched her chin and pressed it to close her mouth. The direct contact of their skin made her senses go wild.
  • “Close your mouth, Ember.”
  • He said those words as he talk to the door that Ember believed to be connected to his room. Minutes later he came back fully clothe and he went to his table and sat on the chair behind it.
  • Ember’s face grew hot as embarrassment devoured her whole being. She knew she look stupidly red right now and all she wanted to do was to disappear. How can she act that way in front of Liam? They have this unspoken war, but here she is, lusting over this hot-tempered Alpha.
  • Liam knew that he was in trouble the moment Ember entered his room. He immediately regretted summoning her.
  • He couldn’t control his heartbeat when all he could think of was how delicious she smelt with all the sweat and her natural scent. His heart was racing, his body was heating and his shaft getting hard with every inhale he did. The cold shower was useless. He even had the audacity to pleasure himself under the shower just to make the heat go away. But all work done was futile.
  • It took him every ounce of control not to let his wolf surface. He immediately scolded his wolf but it only growled disapprovingly at him, which made him more confused.
  • Ember is not his mate. He was born with no mate and he didn’t care before since he fell in love with Natasha, for Liam she was her mate. He still couldn’t feel a connection with Ember but for some reason, she was invading his mind every single minute of the day.
  • He cleared his throat to distract himself from admiring how fresh and beautiful she looked by just wearing an ordinary shirt.
  • Liam shifted on his seat and pulled the red scarf from his drawer. It was the scarf they found at the north border, and Liam knew that it belonged to Ember, he can smell traces of her scent on that small scarf.
  • “This is yours, right?” He asked her the question without leaving his eyes on her to see how she would react. He raised the scarf so Ember could see it.
  • Liam saw recognition on her face, but there was also confusion. She just frowned her brows.
  • “Yes, that’s mind. Why do you have that? I was looking for the scarf days ago, I thought I lose it. Where did you find that?”
  • Ember attempted to get the scarf but Liam pulled it away from her. Instead, he asked her a question directly.
  • “What are you up to? You and your father, you must be planning something else.” It sounded like an accusation, and Liam was really accusing them.
  • Liam had to remind himself how much he hated Arnulf Jacobson, Ember’s father. He knew the man is a traitor but he has no evidence yet.
  • “What are you talking about? What planning is that?” Ember scoffed, disbelief was etched on her beautiful face. Her pale complexion was still red, and Liam didn’t want to think it was because of what happened a while ago.
  • “One of our soldiers found this scarf on the north border. No one is allowed to go there except for the detailed guards and the Delta. What are you doing on the North border? Don’t deny it because this scarf is proof that you were there.” Liam’s voice was stiff and accusing.
  • “Oh, my god! What is this? A fucking interrogation? I didn’t even know where that North border you were talking about was. And did you just accuse me? I can’t believe you. You summoned me here just to accuse me of going to that border. Why is it restricted, by the way?”
  • Ember was already annoyed and Liam knew that she’s been set up. Someone put this scarf there so that Ember will be questioned. Ember is innocent and someone inside his pack wanted to use her.
  • Liam took a deep breath to ease the tension in his shoulders but it was a wrong move.
  • The moment her scent assaulted his senses again, his wolf nearly surfaced, and it growled. His low growl made Ember widen her eyes in shock.
  • Ember saw how Liam’s eyes changed from blue to golden yellow, an indication that he was almost half-transformed. He bared his fangs and lunged at her.
  • “Liam!”
  • In a blink of an eye, Ember was pressed on the wall hard, sharp claws circled her neck and Liam barred his sharp teeth to her. What baffled her the most was when Liam dipped his face to her neck and growled as he took in a mouthful of her scent. At that moment, Ember smelt his arousal, she even felt his hardness when he pressed his body against her.
