Chapter 6

  • It’s been almost a week since she moved to Bresmont. She was originally living in the castle as one of the Lycan King’s elite soldiers and the strongest amongst the rest in Devonlaire.
  • When her father said that she was chosen by the council to be wed to a grumpy, old Alpha, Ember couldn’t seem to understand why they chose her. She’s already committed to serving the King, but then when the King agreed, Ember could not say no anymore.
  • She just has to deal with it. After all, she really has no say in anything in this realm dominated by Alphas. Ember knew she will regret it.
  • And now she’s suffering from his icy stares and cold treatment whenever they bumped into each other. Not that she minded being ignored by the Alpha, she just can’t figure out how William Ashdown became an Alpha of the Pack. He’s a bit childish and immature for his age. For Ember, Liam is not suitable to be an Alpha. He mainly uses his emotions and not his brain and instincts.
  • “There you are! I practically looked for you all over Bresmont! And I can’t believe I found you here in this creepy, abandoned garden!”
  • Ember was brought back to reality when she heard the sweet yet pitchy voice of Solana Creed, a she-wolf member of the Delta Elite Force. Solana was standing at the dilapidated door of the old garden in her full combat uniform. Her strawberry blonde hair was tied into a ponytail and her face was void of any make-up except for the red lipstick on her lips.
  • She’s the second person who showed interest and respect for her as the new Luna of the pack after Dr. Brynn. She came into her room first thing in the morning and brought herbal tea for her wounds. She’s a little loud but Ember doesn’t mind her attitude at all.
  • Solana’s face was filled with excitement the moment she saw Ember. She even clapped her hands like seeing her was the best thing that had happened this morning.
  • Unlike other members of the pack, Solana was bold to act in front of Ember like she was her long-time friend. Maybe that’s the reason why Ember immediately liked her.
  • “I was just thinking about some things, you know. I am still in the process of getting to know this place. I like this place, actually.”
  • Solana sat down beside Ember on an old concrete garden bench.
  • “This place gives me creep all of the time. I feel like there are ghost lurking in the shadows. No one comes here! This is an abandoned garden.”
  • “That’s why I like it here, it’s peaceful and quiet. It’s not that creepy, I even saw a bird a while ago.” Ember pointed to the only tree in the garden. The sun shone on the tree making it look magnificent. For Ember, places like this should be treasured.
  • “You should not be sulking here! Come, I want to take you somewhere, I’m sure you’ll love it!” Solana’s voice was laced with excitement as she stood up and tried to pull Ember.
  • Though Ember was the new Luna, Solana treated her with both respect and with ease. She’s Liam’s cousin and his most trusted.
  • “And where that might be? I don’t want to bump into Liam again, Lana. He’s practically growling at me whenever we saw each other. He’s annoying and I want to punch him every time I see his face.” Ember almost whined.
  • Solana rolled her eyes like she was also annoyed with her cousin.
  • “The Alpha is not here. He went to the borders with the Deltas to check if there was another breach last night. A soldier was found dead near the area.”
  • Ember frowned at what she heard. “Is it always like this in here? I mean, how could a werewolf soldier get killed just like that? What did the Alpha do to stop these killings? Does he know who’s behind all of these killings?” It’s the fourth killing since she arrived here in Bresmont, and it’s quite alarming that every now and then there’s a werewolf soldier who got killed by an unknown perpetrator.
  • Solana’s face suddenly turned serious. She went to sit back beside Ember and released a heavy sigh.
  • “It’s the hunters and witches. We’ve been dealing with them since the very beginning and now it’s getting worse. It won’t be long until a real bloody war between the two will break. That’s the reason we’ve been training soldiers day and night to supply for the insufficient numbers of soldiers.” Solana was really worried. Their soldiers are getting killed, and they were not just ordinary soldiers, they were hard-trained and very strong. She thought that the witches might have something to do with this.
  • Ember looked at Solana, disbelief was etched on her beautiful face. She can’t believe something like this had been happening in this particular district of Devonlaire. She was used to the peaceful and quiet surroundings of the palace. There’s no threat to the lives of the soldiers and not even one soul dared to disturb that peace.
  • “What about Liam? Alpha Chris? Does the King know about this?” They could ask for help from the King if these killings will persist. Ember will not tolerate this, they must do something.
  • Ember grew restless just thinking that every werewolf in Bresmont is in danger. She knew how cruel those werewolf hunters were, and she knew witches were an evil creatures. Well, except for those who practice white magic, she knew good witches living in peace outside Devonlaire.
  • “The Alpha is working on it. The King knew,” Solana paused, looking at Ember with sympathy, “That was the main reason why the King chose a Luna for this pack. We all know that a pack with no Luna keeps getting weaker. A pack is not complete without a luna.”
  • Ember smiled at Solana and tapped the soldier’s hand that was resting on her lap.
  • “It’s okay, you don’t have to worry about it, before I agreed to this marriage I already knew what was waiting for me. And I am glad that I could be of help to this pack.”
  • “I’m sorry, Luna. I wanted to ask forgiveness for how Liam treated you. I know I don’t have the right to say this, but please, bear with him. We really need you, Luna Ember. Bresmont needs you.”
  • Ember stood, looked down at Solana, and smiled. “Let’s go. I thought you want to show me something. I wonder what that would be.”
  • Solana’s face brightened. She immediately stood in excitement.
  • Ember and Sol went out of the secret garden. Solana leads the way going to the secret training camp. They took a secret route in the woods, behind the pack’s mansion.
  • The forest was dark and dense with trees. “Sol? Where are we going?” Ember couldn’t help but ask.
  • “We are going to the training camp, Luna. It is where our soldiers are trained to become strong. The whole Delta Elite was there, I want you to meet them.”
  • Ember already heard about Bresmont’s Delta Elite Force. They were the best soldiers in the district, selected and trained to fight and defend the walls of Bresmont. With that thought, Ember grew curious and she wanted to meet them as well.
  • Sol just kept walking with Ember behind her. After a few minutes, Ember could see a little spot of light. The light became bigger as they went near it, and before Ember could notice, they emerged from the dense forest trees, and Ember saw a vast empty land.
  • Ember’s jaw dropped as she witnessed how the soldiers were trained. There were almost hundreds of them in the field.
  • For the first time in her stay in Bresmont, Ember felt excitement running through her veins.
