Chapter 4
- Ember gritted her teeth as she sat on one of the infirmary’s empty beds. The rest of the pack was now in their respective rooms, resting and recuperating after the attack after they took her to the infirmary since it won’t heal easily.
- She was the only one who was left in the infirmary together with Dr. Brynn who was treating her wounds, a wound that was inflicted by her very own cruel Alpha. Ember wanted to laugh mockingly at herself. She was embarrassed on her first night being a Luna.
- Ember grimaced at the thought that Liam really had hurt her. Now that she had seen his cruel side, she knew that he was a hopeless case.
- “This will hurt,” Brynn warned her. She was holding a bottle with a black liquid on it. Ember had no interest in asking what was inside that bottle, all she could think of was how painful her wounds are and how she hated the Alpha right now.
- Doctor Brynn Daniels, the pack’s doctor had been kind to treat her at this hour.
- Ember just nodded slowly. Pain does not scare her. She’s been through a lot of pain ever since she was a little kid. Her father, Arnulf Jacobson, ruthlessly trained her how to be a hardened warrior, and she is now.
- Dr. Brynn poured it on her wound the black-colored liquid.
- The moment it touched Ember’s wound on her shoulder, pain spread through her entire shoulder blades. She winced as she felt like her wounds were being sliced.
- “Oh, shit! That hurts! What the devil is that?” Ember’s face contorted as she said those words. She didn’t expect that, she thought she was immune to pain.
- “I’m sorry. I told you this will hurt. It’s a medicine for wounds from an Alpha’s claws. It takes time to heal from a wound inflicted by an alpha, so we made this potion to fasten the healing process.” Dr. Brynn said apologetically.
- Brynn dabbed a clean cloth and covered the wound.
- Ember endured several wounds from Liam. If this reaches her father, Ember was sure that this would rise arguments in the council.
- “Your alpha is one ill-tempered wolf. He’s a jerk.” Ember spat those words angrily. She can’t believe that her first night in the mansion would turn out like this, almost being torn into pieces.
- Not that she expected a romantic night in the alpha’s bed, she already knew that won’t happen, but she neither expected to be enduring these slashes from the alpha.
- Brynn smiled apologetically at Ember. The doctor knew William Ashdown since the very beginning, they practically grew up together, and Liam was also hot-tempered ever since she could remember. He just changed when he met Natasha. And now Natasha’s dead
- “I’m so sorry about Liam.” It was all Brynn could say.
- “Don’t be, your not the one who slashed me. That jerk almost killed me” Ember groaned as Brynn poured the liquid into another wound. “I can’t believe Natasha married that jerk. He’s like a wimpy dog with a bad attitude. No one falls for that kind of man if he’s even a man in the first place.”
- Ember’s beautiful face contorted as she tried hard not to groan loud.
- Brynn let out a sigh. She liked the new luna of their pack. Even though she’s close to Natasha, she can’t deny that Ember really is something. She can see the determination in her eyes, something that Natasha lacks.
- “Please bear with him, Luna. He’s just frustrated that the council married him off. He’s really against it, I’m sorry.”
- “Please, don’t say sorry anymore. It makes me feel like I’m the bad guy here.”
- Brynn can’t help but smile. She finished cleaning and dressing Ember’s Wounds.
- “Okay, this will heal much faster now. Not as fast as an ordinary wound, but it’s bearable. A day or two and it will be gone.” Brynn smiled at Ember.
- “Thank you.”
- “It’s a pleasure to serve our new Luna. We’ve been waiting for this day and are so thankful to finally have you.”
- Ember couldn’t help but feel a tug of pride when Brynn acknowledges her as the new luna of the pack. She’s the first one to say that, actually.
- She thought about Natasha being the Luna of the pack before. What was she like? She was not interested in Natasha being the luna before. They were cousins but they were not close to each other. There was this unspoken rivalry between the two of them since they were often compared to each other.
- She, is the strongest she-wolf in her generation, while Natasha who posses goddess-like beauty. Ember knew that she couldn’t surpass Natasha in terms of beauty that’s why she made sure that she will be the stronger one between the two of them.
- “What was she like as the Luna?”
- Before she could even stop it, she found herself asking Brynn about Natasha.
- Brynn turned to her with a confused look etched on her face. “Pardon?”
- “Natasha. What was she like when she was the ruling Luna of the pack?”
- Ember’s face heated in shame. She can’t believe she’s actually asking those questions for her first day as Luna.
- Brynn put down the bottle of medicine back in the box and deposited it in the cabinet before she went to her table and sat behind her desk.
- She completely understands why Ember ask those question, and she won’t judge her.
- “Well, Luna Natasha was a sweet and caring Luna to the pack.” Brynn smiled like she just remembered a good memory. “She always made sure that every pack member will be treated fairly, even the omegas. That’s why they loved her so much.”
- Ember nodded, unable to utter a word. There’s a tiny sting of insecurity that crawled inside her heart as she listened to Brynn.
- “Was Liam good to her?”
- Brynn eyed her for a brief moment before she answered truthfully. She nodded.
- “Alpha Liam really cared for her.”
- Again, Ember nodded, still speechless with every answer that Brynn gave.
- “Do you think I can be a good Luna, Dr. Brynn? I’m not as sweet and caring as Natasha. I was forged for war, I’m a hardened warrior.”
- The doctor nodded with her eyes filled with adoration, a thing that Ember couldn’t understand. There’s nothing about her that should be adorned.
- “Yes, I heard stories about you. You’re quite popular, especially on the training grounds. There were stories about how good you were in combat.”
- “You make it sound like I was an old tale. I feel old.”
- “Oh, I didn’t mean it like that.”
- Ember laughed. “I was just joking.” She stood and readied herself to go back to the room she was going to occupy for tonight since the huge room was a mess.
- Ember was about to leave open the door when Brynn spoke.
- “You just have to be yourself, Luna Ember. I know you will be a good Luna to the pack, even better than Bresmont ever had.”
- That night, as Ember lie in bed, she thought of how fate played with her. The moon goddess might be involved in this. She never thought that she will be a Luna to a pack and the future mother of an Alpha’s heir.
- All her life she was thought how to fight to serve the Lycan King. Never in her wildest dreams that her life would drastically change.
- “Maybe I just have to suck this up.”
- She thought of Liam and how he treated her. Her hands balled into a fist as she recalled how he looked down on her. She will definitely make that alpha bow down at her feet.
- “You just wait, William Ashdown, I will bend you and make you kneel before me.”
- Liam was the last thing on Ember’s mind before she was devoured into darkness.
