Chapter 8

  • Liam got out of his car the moment they arrived back at the mansion. He has a lot of questions running inside his head and it agitates him that he has no answers for them, only Ember can answer those questions. That means he has to talk to her now, not a good idea for him since he has been doing great avoiding her.
  • “Alpha, Fulker deployed additional soldiers on the west border. Craig already brought the new recruits into the camp for the registration, he said your presence was needed there.”
  • Javier, one of Bresmont’s elite soldiers told Liam as they made their way inside the mansion. He almost forgot about the new recruits this week. He has a lot of things on his mind right now, and the thing that occupies his mind the most was how to avoid Ember at all costs.
  • Liam nodded in approval. “Good, I will be there in a minute. I just had to talk to the Luna for a moment.” Yes. He calls Ember luna. She doesn’t want to rise issues about treating her badly. He realized that after their fight on her first night here. He needs to reign his emotions. He just has to act as civilly as possible around her.
  • Liam gripped the scarf in his hand as he entered the mansion. He didn’t like what he was thinking and he wants an explanation now. He can feel that they were surrounded by traitors by now, and thinking that Ember was one of them enrages him. She was selected by the King, and Liam thought at she will be the last person on the list of traitors. Except for her father that has been acting weird ever since.
  • “Where’s Ember?” He asked Jenna, one of the workers at the mansion.
  • Jenna bowed her head when she came to face the Alpha. She could sense the overflowing surge of authority and as an omega of the pack, that kind of power cowers her, as all of the omegas do.
  • The omegas are the lowest in the rank of the pack, and they also dominate in numbers since not all were born with gifts of strength and power.
  • “Alpha! Luna Ember is in the training ground together with the Delta warriors. ” Jenna almost kneeled in front of Liam.
  • Liam didn’t waste time, he immediately went to the training ground. He knew instantly who brought Ember there, it was Solana.
  • For the past couple of days, Liam saw how Solana treated Ember. She’s too friendly to the new Luna, something that Liam already expected, given her easygoing attitude.
  • Solana was his cousin on the mother's side. They practically grew up together since her parents were killed while defending Devonlaire. Solana was just three years old when that happened, and that was why his parents took care of her.
  • The training ground was located somewhere deep in the forest behind the mansion that Liam built for his wife.
  • It was built by his great-grandfather when the time when war between the werewolves and the hunters. It was Devonlaire’s dark ages, a lot of werewolves were killed and the hunters dominated the land. But it was not the same now. After the war, the werewolves won, and the hunters were hunted to extinction. Though they still exist in hiding and always wreaking havoc in Devonlaire whenever they can.
  • Using the secret passages going to the camp, Liam used his speed to go there as soon as possible. From the mansion, there are secret passages going to the training camp.
  • Once there, Liam was greeted by the loud voice of a cheering crowd. Liam frowned, confused why the young recruits were laughing and cheering like they were having a good time instead of training.
  • He squinted his eyes to the center of the training ground, and there he found the woman she was looking for.
  • For a fraction of a time, Liam stood there his eyes fixed on the she-wolf who half-transformed. For some unknown reason, Liam felt his heart beat a little faster than it should. He stared at Ember as she had one-on-one combat with one of the recruits. The way she moved mesmerized him the way that no she-wolf had ever done. Her moves were precision and very calculated. The way she dodged an attack was like magic to Liam’s system, he can’t take his eyes off Ember.
  • His mouth gaped open when Ember launched at the young female she-wolf high so high and commanded the younger one to dodge her attack.
  • “Dodged!” Ember shouted.
  • The recruit was able to jump and rolled on the mud to dodge Ember’s attack. Just as the recruit was back on her feet, Ember was suddenly in front of her. One arm grabbed the recruit’s neck and Ember’s other hand twisted her arm on the back. She pushed the young girl into the mud, face down, and held her still.
  • “Lesson number one, never let your guard down after dodging an attack. Your enemy will do its best to kill you. Dodging a single attack doesn’t mean victory.” Ember said while catching her own breath.
  • Ember released the recruit and tapped her shoulders. She had a wide smile plastered on her lips as the recruits hugged her and thanked her for the opportunity to teach them.
  • “Thank you so much, Luna Ember. We will surely remember all those things you taught us!”
  • For the first time since Ember’s arrival, Liam saw genuine happiness on her face. Liam also realized that Ember is ever more beautiful if she smiled. Her smiling face could literally light up someone’s day. She’s a beautiful scene.
  • Liam didn’t want to admit it, but deep down inside his cold heart, he knew something has changed.
  • “She must be happy teaching them.” He whispered to himself unconsciously.
  • When their eyes meet, Liam put on a cold stare at Ember. He walked towards them.
  • Immediately, the recruits acknowledge Liam's presence.
  • “You got fifteen minutes to freshen up.” Solana dismissed the recruits.
  • “Alpha Liam, did you see how Luna Ember teaches the young recruits? She’s amazing, isn’t she? With all those moves, I think I’m having a crush on her. ” Solana chirped like a giddy child. She even crossed her arm around Ember’s arm.
  • Ember just laughed at Solana’s joke.
  • Liam nodded but didn’t spare Solana even one glance. His eyes were fixed on Ember. He could smell her sweat mixed with her natural sweet scent, and his body was acting differently, a reaction he didn’t expect to feel. A tingling sensation crept in every nerve of his body and he felt like his body temperature was going up.
  • Liam grimaced at the thought that his body reacted to her scent. Even his wolf felt that reaction, and it was pleased, something that Liam made even more pissed. He urged himself not to inhale more of her scent as it will be very obvious. With much self-control, he put on a blank face as he looked straight into her eyes. Making sure that Ember will only see the voidness of any emotion in his eyes.
  • “I need to talk to you. In my office. Now.” Liam’s voice was full of authority.
  • That was all he said before he turned and left the place as fast as he could, getting away so he can’t sniff her sweet scent that was wreaking havoc inside his mind and body. He was already on the verge of grabbing her to his body.
  • “Fuck.” He run as fast as he could until he reached back to the mansion.
  • He immediately went to his room. He went inside his bathroom and turned the cold water on without even taking his clothes off his body.
  • He badly needed a shower to cool off his heating body. But then he realized that the cold water from his shower was not enough to die down the heat that was consuming his sanity.
