• For the first two weeks after our ordeal with Adrian Peters, Christian slept between me and Adara. He had nightmares and it was just easier to soothe him when he was with us. Malachi had started the adoption process for us and Richard had given us the name of a social worker he knew and trusted to handle our case.
• We did all the home interviews and checks, the surprise visits and so forth. I had to submit my bank statements to prove my income. The school sent reports and we got glowing reviews. Christian was happy in our home and well-adjusted at school.
• We didn’t send him back to daycare for four weeks because we couldn’t take the chance that he would tell his teachers that he’d been kidnapped. I took him to see Travis instead and worked through the trauma with him.
