• "I'm not going to let you go," I said gently. "I know you're scared, and I understand that. But you're not in any danger here. I promise you that."
• "You can't promise that," she said, her voice filled with doubt. "You couldn't keep me safe at the club so why should I believe you. If you aren't here to take me back to the club then why are you here?"
