• Colin's initial frustration at his mother cancelling her booking at Ritz Carlton quickly dissolved into gratitude as he watched her step in and take charge of his already pathetic household.
• He found himself enjoying her company despite his reservations and was only too grateful to have her calming presence around Alice, showering her with all the the love and devotion he dared not match.
• There were picnics, and outings, and homemade meals, and endless shoppings for her granddaughter that Colin started to forget what it felt like to not be this at ease. He noticed Alice's mood had changed considerably and she seemed to have begun developing strong bonds with Kate.
