• In the days that followed, hard as he tried to, Colin couldn't shake off the feeling of unease and dread he felt whenever he remembered the anonymous message he'd received that afternoon, as he sat in his study with Ryan.
• "There's more coming your way. Watch your back, Colin Anderson." It had read, and he tried not to think it was from Elaine. She might be a bitch, but he didn't consider it something she could do; sending anonymous underhanded messages after what she'd done to him. He suspected it was her lover with whom he'd caught her cheating but he had no proof that it could be him, considering how lily-livered he had seemed that day. Whoever it was, Colin was determined to protect himself and his daughter from whatever threats loomed ahead.

He had also kept Elaine's pregnancy away from his friend's ears. Colin didn't know why, but he felt the need to keep secrets more often than before. But he smiled and pretended he still had everything under control even when he didn't.
