Chapter 10 Chapter Ten
- Colin hastily descended the stairs, the tears blurring his vision as he entered his car and sped out.
- As he drove back to work, his heart beating wildly, his eyes blurred with tears he wished would stop springing up and threatening to spill, his hands gripped the steering wheel with a white-knuckled intensity, his knuckles turning pale with the force of his grip. His driving was erratic, his mind consumed with wild dark thoughts he couldn't ignore.
- The once familiar route to the office felt unfamiliar and surreal. His thoughts were a jumbled mess, swirling with emotions he could barely comprehend; anger, hurt, and a profound sense of loss. Loss because he knew that even if he was determined to hold on to Elaine, there was really nothing left to hold on to. All that was left of their marriage was a terrible mess, bitter feelings, voids that could never be filled, unforgivingness, pain, and, worst of all, lies. The lie of living together pretending to be happy. The lie of sticking together when the very foundation of their union had been set aflame and crumbled to ash.
