Chapter 14 Chapter Fourteen

  • The next day, Colin woke up from a fitful sleep, his head throbbing painfully. Earlier in the previous night, after moving out of their bedroom, he had walked to the study and sat, staring idly at the his full shelves, lost in thoughts. All at once, the hunger pangs he'd been expecting came rushing at him. He had skipped lunch, and dinner and now suddenly, the biting hunger came and he began to feel dizzy. When he managed to get up and shuffle downstairs to get something to eat, he realized that it was a little past midnight and the house was silent as all the workers had retired for the day. He had walked to the fridge and grabbed himself a snack and a can of soda then retreated back upstairs, to his new room where he had eaten hurriedly, not because he wanted to but because he needed to, then collapsed tiredly on the large soft mattress.
  • He had stared at the ceiling, feeling so alone, so lonely, so sad. It had seemed like the big empty room was closing in on him, and he had closed his eyes to keep the imaginations away. Soon, he was fast asleep, turning restlessly every now and then, haunted even in his sleep.
  • When the day finally broke and sunlight streamed through the partings of the curtains, Colin squinted and tried getting up but collapsed back, groaning in agony. The headache was so intense he felt like his head was going to explode. He had remained in that position for some minutes before it finally subsided. With all the willpower he could muster, he rose to his feet slowly, and began to get dressed for work, even though he wished he could just lay in bed all day, locked away from the world, and sleep his life away.
