Chapter 7 Ignored

  • Guilt didn't let go of me. I discreetly peered at Jayden, who was eating his breakfast without any care in the entire world.
  • When he came down for breakfast this morning, he just marched over to his chair without greeting anyone.
  • Gordon sent a glare his way, which he ignored and pretended like he was blind.
  • None of us said a word to each other as I dished the food out and concentrated on eating, which I didn't take more than a spoonful of before my focus returned to Jayden.
  • He only ate two of the doughnuts I made and drank half of the orange juice I poured out before he dropped his fork, and rose from the chair.
  • “Where are you heading to?” Gordon raised his brow at him.
  • “My room," He turned to leave, going towards the stairs.
  • “What do you think about working for the summer? You can earn something from it or attend —”
  • He turned, “do you have any vehicle repairing work? An automobile workshop will be better.”
  • Gordon looked shocked that he agreed without grumbling like he does all the time.
  • “Then, I will arrange it for you. I have a friend who does automobile —”
  • “Perfect. If there is nothing else, I would love to be in my room.” He turned and left for his room without looking at me.
  • I even wished he will throw his usual slut slurs my way. At least that would mean he acknowledged my presence, but nothing of that sort happened.
  • Could it be that he regretted last night?
  • “He's still getting used to this place, Chrysalis. Don't mind him.” Gordon took a bite of his doughnuts, “God, you are just wonderful. Had I not gotten married to you, I would have stolen you from the one you are married to.”
  • I blushed, “stop saying such embarrassing words. I'm not as good as you made it sound.” I took a bite of my waffles, “what of me? Can you help me find a job? I would prefer one in a library if you don't mind.”
  • “Aren't you starting work after the summer holiday?" He sounded confused.
  • “I know. I just need one for the summer holiday. I won't be comfortable at home while you and Jayden go out to work.” I drank from my cup, smearing milk on my lips, like a kid.
  • “God, I can't seem to understand you,” chuckling, he leaned over, wiped the milk off my lips with his thumb, and sucked it into his mouth, with his focus on me.
  • His actions made me blush. I turned my face to the side to hide the embarrassment in them, while he chuckled like one who got an inside joke.
  • “I'm still a baby!” I pouted, knowing I was not a baby. A woman who can fight men off isn't a baby. Yet, when it comes to Jayden, I can't seem to keep my feet down and demand he stops his shenanigans.
  • “That you are, my love.” He winked at me, “I think I need a baby carrier and nappies.”
  • “Gordon!”
  • He chuckled, not minding how embarrassed his words made me feel. I glared at the man, who didn't look bothered at all.
  • “What? Anything I need to know?” He pursed his lips and winked at me.
  • We ate the rest of our breakfast, making jokes and laughing like old times. This was how life had always been for us.
  • That was before his son made an appearance and scattered my brain by not only being hot but he also happened to be my mate!
  • Damn it!
  • Gordon helped me with the dishes before he left for work like he does all the time, promising to find a job for me for the summer holiday.
  • I arranged the house and wiped the pieces of furniture before I prepared a late-morning snack for myself.
  • Jayden had been up there for a long, so I figured he might stay there all morning, only coming down when he needed something.
  • I went upstairs, had my bath and wore one of my loose gowns. My run yesterday was interrupted by those damned men. I just hope none of them show up today. Otherwise, I might murder them —with my claws.
  • I shut the door and sneaked out of the house. I had to walk a distance before I changed to my wolf, to avoid being caught.
  • I can't afford to be caught by my stepson.
  • I howled out to the sun, excited to be out in the woods. Running through the forest reminded me so much of the pack I left behind.
  • Back then, we raced every morning and night, jumping through trees and swimming in the creeks. But not any more. I only run whenever I have the chance to do so, and that's whenever Gordon leaves the house.
  • His son is mostly occupied in his room to pay me any heed. And I think he's ignoring me. Who knows, I wasn't good enough with my mouth last night.
  • He might have been disappointed, despite telling me how good my mouth is. Bet he's only trying to help my ego, which would have been dashed last night had he told me that my mouth wasn't good.
  • I fell next to the creek, and raised my face to the sky, basking in the warmth of the sun.
  • 'I love being out here!' Chels wagged her tail.
  • I immediately changed into my human form, wanting to feel the sun on my face.
  • “I do too,” I raised my right palm as if to shed the sun from shining hard in my eyes. A smile tugged on the side of my lips.
  • Being out here makes me feel at home. For a moment, I forgot all my problems, eager to stay out here for as long as I could, to just believe that I'm free enough to do whatever I please.
  • 'Let's take another run. It's not midday yet. We can take a dip in that creek.' She suggested, eager to run through the forest.
  • I groaned and made to turn, so I could shift mid-turn, only for a sound to freeze me in my bones. I took a whiff of the air and was shocked to discover that Jayden was the one out there.
  • I turned, stunned by the revelation. The sound came once more before everywhere became quiet.
  • I tried to think back to when I changed into my wolf, wondering if he saw me in my wolf form.
  • 'I doubt that. Had he seen you, he would have screamed. You know how humans are. Fickle creatures.'
  • Yet, you claim that one of them is your mate? How the hell did you even get to have such a thought?
  • I wondered, still with my senses attuned to Jayden, who hadn't made an appearance yet.
  • Could it be that he wishes to watch me in secret? Not knowing that I heard his approach?
  • I closed my eyes and pretended as if I was alone. I raised my right palm once more and sighed.
  • 'Mate is out there!'
  • Chels doesn't look ready to drop the matter until I go over there to check on Jayden. Her eagerness rubbed off on me, and I felt the urge to go over but quelled it.
  • I know he's out there watching us. What do you want me to do? Get down on my knees and approach him?
  • Then, what? What do you wish for me to do after that?
  • 'Dunno. You can just wave your palm to him in a 'hello' gesture.'
  • I rolled my eyes at her words.
  • If he wishes to watch me in secret, he can do that. I'm not ready to acknowledge him.
