Chapter 15 You Are the Father of the Child
- Holding the phone up to her ear, Cen Yao answered the call immediately.
- “Youyi, you’ve got one minute to appear before me,” the voice of the man resounding from the other end of the line held a hint of impatience.
- Youyi?
- His name was such a mouthful.
- Cen Yao explained, “Sir, he can’t appear before you so quickly, but you must appear before him as soon as possible this instant.”
- Seemingly surprised by the sound of her voice, the man grew quiet momentarily, before asking, “Why is it you?”
- The way he worded his question would give anyone the impression that they had known each other.
- “Your son, Youyi, fainted at the New Hundred Flowers Club earlier. I’d happened to bump into him, so I sent him to the hospital…”
- The man interrupted her, “Which hospital?”
- “People’s Hospital on Chengnan Road,” she replied quickly, empathizing that he had gotten impatient, out of concern and anxiety.
- “Mhm. Wait for me there.”
- Five words were conveyed as though it had gone without saying.
- As Cen Yao found his voice to be dreadfully familiar and pleasant to the ear, she mused briefly, “Do we know each other, Mister?”
- “Talk when we meet,” after those four succinct words, he hung up the phone decisively.
- As Cen Yao heard the phone beep, she frowned.
- Why would she need to wait for him here? She had tossed her clients behind at the New Hundred Flowers Club, so she had to hurry back to them!
- But thoughts of the pitiful boy kept Cen Yao’s feet rooted to the ground. Forget it! Forget it! I might as well see this good deed to its end!
- Shortly after hanging up, a team of white-robed medical staff approached. The one leading in front, who seemed to have the highest authority, asked the nurse, “I heard that Little Master was sent here. Where is he?”
- “A kid just came in, but no one mentioned if he was Little Master!”
- “Let’s go in and take a look,” he suggested, as he went in and asked, “Is the patient alright?”
- “It was minor. He has already woken up, but I’m not sure if it’s Little Master.”
- The group of medical staff headed into the emergency room briskly.
- As Cen Yao watched the bevy of people from behind, a sentiment rose inside her. It seemed that she had saved a precious little master today.
- Very soon, the little boy was pushed out from inside and sent to a VIP hospital ward. He was sleeping with his eyes closed as he lay in bed, with a pallid face, seeming rather pitiful.
- “Is the kid alright?” Cen Yao whispered to a nurse who entered.
- “Yup. Everything is fine now. He’ll probably wake up after his intravenous drip.”
- “That’s good,” Cen Yao heaved out a sigh of relief.
- Considering that the child was now stable, she had no intention of staying around. She planned to leave after the nurse had set him up with his intravenous drip. Nonetheless, the second she placed her hand on the door handle, she got yanked outside vigorously.
- Caught unaware, Cen Yao could not loosen her grip in time. Hence, the yanking sent her falling facedown onto the ground.
- Thinking that a bad fall was inevitable, she closed her eyes, bracing herself mentally for the pain that was to come, when all of a sudden, a warm hand steadied her waist.
- She bumped directly into a well-toned chest.
- “Drank a lot of alcohol?” a sexy and husky man’s voice floated down from above.
- This voice… it was dreadfully familiar!
- Cen Yao raised her head, gazing at the man before her.
- As though displeased that she was reeking of alcohol, his charming eyebrows furrowed.
- Cen Yao stared at him, “What are you doing here?”
- The man glanced right through her instead, towards the inside.
- Cen Yao had an inkling of thought, “I was just wondering why the voice from the phone call had sounded so familiar.”
- His furrowed brows smoothened out slightly as he glanced towards her. “Good memory,” his gaze scorched throughout Cen Yao’s entire body inexplicably.
- Involuntarily, she had flashbacks of the steamy night they had experienced together, then of the second time they had met at Heaven and Earth, when he had annoyed her with his flirtation, “If I knew you were his old man, I’d have been long gone.”
- “Since you haven’t left, let’s go in for a chat.” Seeming as though he was oblivious of her temper, he kept up a calm demeanor, patting her gently on her back as he spoke, “Can you stand up straight?”
- Only then did Cen Yao realize that she was still leaning against his chest. Blushing out of embarrassment, she hastily straightened her back to turn sideways, giving way to him so that he could enter the hospital ward.
- Yu Fei was trailing behind him, and Cen Yao could remember him. At the VVIP room previously, he was the one whom she had asked to pass money to him.
- Yu Fei smiled at her and greeted, “How are you?”
- Upon recollection, Cen Yao continued to feel awkward, merely nodding her head at him in response.
- Inside the hospital ward, the instant the man stepped in, the nurses, as well as the doctors, stood perfectly straight. They were probably discussing the child’s condition.
- Cen Yao was standing outside and could not make out their conversation.
- Her eyes fell solely upon the man.
- In terms of physique, he was probably beyond the embodiment of perfection, so it was no exaggeration to say he was off the scale. Even the nurse standing at the side looking on at him got so infatuated that her face was faintly red.
- The man was a scourge! Anyone being his wife or girlfriend would have to labor and fend off all these women who were trying to swoop in on him.
- Wife?
- When this crossed Cen Yao’s mind, her body stiffened.
- Since he already had a son, he was probably married, right?
- Then the other night, when the two of them…
- Cen Yao had no desire to be a lover. The infidelity she committed, served only to be a nail in the coffin for the marriage between Bu Ziang and her, as their union was already pronounced dead. There was nothing to be sorry about. But being a mistress meant that she would be wrecking someone else’s marriage, which was unatonable even with death.
- This contemplation weighed heavily on Cen Yao’s heart.
- She lifted her head, just in time to see the man suddenly waving sideways at her, gesturing for her to come in.
- When Cen Yao came close enough, in hindsight, she discovered that it was as if she were an obedient puppy running in the moment he had waved for her.
- Since when did she become this docile? Where did all the arrogance she had for Bu Ziang disappear to?
- “I’ve got to go,” she announced, taking the lead.
- “To drink with a bunch of old men?” his eyebrows creased.
- “Mhm,” Cen Yao nodded, “I dumped my clients at the New Hundred Flowers Club. If I don’t go back soon, my deal will go sour.”
- “What client?” He casually asked her this while bending over to cover the child under the blanket.
- As if you’d know?
- Despite Cen Yao’s thoughts, she spontaneously replied, “The Xincheng land parcel is out, so I arranged to meet some people to see if they can tell me anything about their direction.”
- He remained silent.
- Instead, the child lying in bed, gently hummed before opening and closing his mouth and pitifully crying, “Mommy, it hurts…”.
- This was unbearable for Cen Yao.
- “Why don’t you get his mother to come over?”
- As Shang Tingli gazed at her, his eyes grew dark, “Aren’t you around?”
- “What use will I be? Besides, I’ve got to go.”
- A thought crossed Cen Yao’s mind. Since when were we friendly enough for me to take over his mother’s job?
- “When he used to be in pain, his granny was the one who would stroke his arm with the needle, making him feel a lot better. You do it. I’m not good at it.”
- He even turned slightly, to make space for her by the bedside.
