Chapter 8 Check-up

  • From Cen Yao’s silence, Ren Mingxuan gathered her answer.
  • Immediately, she flew into a temper, throwing a fuss, “You’re so useless that you can’t even bear a child! If you hadn’t caused Mengrui’s miscarriage back then, the Bus’ grandson would have already learned to run by now.”
  • Cen Yao was as calm as still water.
  • Being Bu Ziang’s true first love, You Mengrui and Bu Ziang had known each other since childhood.
  • 6 years ago, on the night that Cen Yao had married Bu Ziang, You Mengrui came looking for him in their bridal chamber, crying and creating a scene before her. Cen Yao did nothing to retaliate, but Cen Xuan pounced on the chance to say some offensive things to her. As she turned, she had seen blood trickling down between You Mengrui’s legs. It was then that Cen Yao had discovered that You Mengrui was pregnant with Bu Ziang’s baby. As Bu Ziang blamed her for You Mengrui’s miscarriage, Bu Ziang hated her to the core since that fateful night.
  • “Mom, you know what it’s like. It takes two hands to clap to get pregnant. I’ve taken note of everything you’ve said, but Ziang’s so busy that he can only make it home for no more than a couple of days each month, and you know it,” Setting the teacup down, Cen Yao explained this unhurriedly.
  • Well aware of her son’s personality, Ren Mingxuan snottily hummed a couple of times again and proclaimed, “You can’t even control your husband. Other than pleasing the old men on the Board of Directors, is there anything else you’re good at?”
  • Cen Yao smiled moderately, not responding to her mother-in-law’s mockery.
  • Her lack of reaction naturally made the conversation meaningless for Ren Mingxuan, so she took her purse and turned to leave. On her way out, she brought out her phone out, to call her son, badmouthing and complaining about her daughter-in-law to him.
  • After Ren Mingxuan had departed, Cen Yao headed to her bedroom. With her skin feeling as though it were raw from getting flayed, she lay weakly on the bed, not wanting to move a muscle.
  • She gave her secretary, Li Qing, a call, “I’ll be back in the office this afternoon. If there’s anything to report, let them come by my office in the afternoon.”
  • “Sure thing, Mrs. Bu. Are you feeling unwell? I can take you to the hospital for a check-up.”
  • “I’m fine. It’s no big deal,” Cen Yao remained reticent and hung up.
  • After lying down for a while, she took out her bathrobe and went for a shower. In the mirror, with marks speckled all over her naked body, a slight sense of self-loathing rose from her, uncontrollably. Regardless of the poor relationship that she had with Bu Ziang, she should never have permitted degrading herself in such a manner.
  • Not only did I commit infidelity, but the party involved is also a…
  • The thought of this made Cen Yao’s beautiful eyebrows furrow. Did we use any protection last night?
  • After reflecting on it for quite a while, she could not recall seeing any in the room.
  • Her countenance grew ashen.
  • It was unclear whether the man was clean. However, based on his appearance, he was not only untainted but exceptional. Yet, what if he genuinely happened to have some ailment?
  • Cen Yao started regretting her decisions.
  • She showered, after which, she had disregarded her exhaustion, driving herself to the hospital.
  • After parking the car, she went to the small pharmacy beside the hospital to purchase morning-after pills, consuming them before going into the hospital for a detailed, full-body check-up. The doctor from the dermatology department had probably seen his fair share of this, so he was undisturbed and only advised, “Women should have more self-love. Usually, any illnesses discovered during their check-up here are due to having promiscuous sex lives.” The doctor’s words attracted the attention pf passersby, as they turned their eyes towards Cen Yao, studying her.
  • Cen Yao had fought battles in the corporate world daily. Despite overcoming many tough situations, she could not help but blush now, feeling as though she was being tortured and thrown over a fire to roast, making her so uneasy that neither sitting nor standing gave her comfort. The doctor pushed his glasses up and added, “Negative examination results doesn’t that mean you can take things lightly, because these illnesses tend to have an incubation period. I suggest that you ask him to be sure, so that you can mentally prepare yourself.”
