Chapter 14

• Harvey and I got into the car and I started driving. We have been in silence for a few minutes, but River was ecstatic to have our mate so close. After she refused to come with us to the pack, I could feel River's urge to go after her and plead with her to join us. We had waited so long and he didn't want to be away from her any longer. I knew I couldn't do that, so I ran into the nearby woods and shifted, my clothes tearing apart. I hoped a run would help calm him down. I was glad I did that because if we hadn't been in the woods, Robert would have taken her away. Just thinking about that made both me and River furious, and all I wanted to do was rip that jerk to pieces for even looking at my mate.
• The silence was becoming increasingly awkward and uncomfortable. River wanted me to talk to her, to touch her, but I kept him in check. Being this close to her was stirring up feelings inside me that I had never felt before. Feelings so strong, it was hard to keep them at bay. That night at the club when I saw that man touching her, I completely lost it. She was mine now and no one should even look at her without my permission. Louis was mad at me for lashing out at her, but seeing her so close with another guy was infuriating. I had been waiting for her for years, trying to stay away from other women, no matter how much they threw themselves at me. Was it too much to expect the same from my mate?
• Matilda then started fiddling with the radio knobs and some music started playing, keeping the volume low. After a few songs had played, she finally looked up at me and asked, "How did you know Robert would be coming afterme?" she asked.
