He had made it clear that he would not approve of a simple waitress as his only son's wife. I thought of the irony of it, as it would be even more shocking if Frederico Ricci found out that Cecilia used to work as a janitor at our company.
• Part of me was satisfied knowing that I would challenge Frederico Ricci's strict principles by marrying Cecilia, but at the same time, I was deeply conflicted about taking this step in my life when marriage was not part of my plans. The idea of having to bring Cecilia to my apartment even before the wedding was another source of frustration. It was already enough to have a woman in my domain, disrupting my bachelor's life.
