Chapter 7
- KANE'S POV
- I was still reeling from the joy of finding out that she was not engaged. All these days without her had been painful. I wanted her. I missed her. I miss her smell, how good she tasted, her lips and I missed being inside her.
- "Kane "she called.
- After seeing her again, I couldn't control my behavior toward her, even my inner wolf was unable to contain his excitement.
- From the moment he had seen her weave through the crowd to get through, he had realized that he wasn't letting her go. I had let her go the last time because he knew that a werewolf's honor was his bond and no one could break mine. So in order to show that respect I had to let her go, as painfully as that was.
- All these days I had been wandering around his pack like an unsatisfied wolf who hadn't had meat in a very long while I was grumpy, unsatisfied, and agitated all the time. I had tried to curb the urge to look for her again by seeing other women but none had been able to give that satisfaction. In every face, I saw her. In every kiss, I was reminded of her lips.
- "Kane," she said in a low whisper, throwing back her head in a sigh.
- I felt my pants constrict at her moan.
- I slipped two fingers into her, pumping into her. My eyes darted around the hallway and was satisfied when I couldn't see any sign of life roaming the hallways.
- I felt the strong pull to take her up on the wall right here, right then.
- "I know you both can't keep your hands off each other. But we better get going or else you'll have to explain why you both are humping each other's bones in the hallway"
- I felt Luna tap my shoulder gently before walking away with the amused smile that I knew she must have had on her lips. I muttered a curse under my breath.
- As if broken from a trance, Zara pulled my hand away from her and adjusted her skirt.
- "We should get going?" she said awkwardly before slipping out of my arms and scurrying away in a hurry. I felt my heart skittered to a stop as I watched her walk away hastily, probably embarrassed.
- "She's all mine," I told myself as I followed behind her with a proud smile playing on my lips.
- She had kept to her word and had given us a grand tour of the entire pack. We had met with some of the warriors from her pack and Luna had found her place where the kids were studying and practicing.
- We were seated along a river bank alone again. I stared at her as she drew circles in the sand beside her.
- "You'll burn a hole through my head if you keep staring at me you know" she stated her eyes still perched on the drawing she was making in the sand.
- I smiled.
- "That doesn't matter," I stated still staring at her. She glanced up at me, raising a confused brow at me.
- "Where do you come from? Why do you act like this? I have so many questions" She said looking away.
- "I come from the other end of the city from the Moonshadow pack. It's nice there. Am sure you'll love it well there" I told her staring wistfully back at the streaming river. She turned her gaze to stare back at me this time.
- "What are you saying? Do you expect me to go back with you? How would that even work?" she asked me.
- "Am saying that you're my mate and now that I know that you are irrevocably single, nothing is holding me from marching over to your father to tell him that I want to take you back with me"I told her...
- Her eyes grew wide in shock.
- I rose from the sand dusting off my butt before proceeding to walk past her heading straight to her father's quarters to do as I had said.
- She rushed to stop me.
- "Please don't. Please don't. I don't know how well he would take you. To him, you would be an outsider.Please."She pleaded.
- I saw her eyes stained with tears and I softened in response.
- We were seated back in our original stop now.
- "My father sees you as an outsider" she stated.
- I turned back at her with a confused frown.
- "So? What does that have to do with anything?"I asked her.
- "The man am supposed to marry would become the next alpha" she replied still focused on the running water.
- I raised a curious glance at her.
- "What are you saying?"
- "It would never work between us. Our union will not be accepted by both our packs," she answered.
- I rose from where I sat in outrage.
- "That's not what's important!"I snapped.
- "Please, Kane. We have obligations and responsibilities to our packs. You're the Alpha and am sure there are a plethora of women pining over you and here, am a warrior and the daughter of the Alpha. One that is supposed to ensure continuity to our line" She reasoned.
- I grimaced at her words.
- "What are you saying, Zara? It isn't your sole job to give the line babies or marry the right man to ensure the line stays in your family. Do not let anyone put that kind of pressure on you. Once you're my woman. If you wholeheartedly accept, then I'll make sure that you have a partner to share in your burdens, I'll never let you take on so much pressure. I'll treat you like the true queen that you are. You belong with me. Please come to me. Say Yes and I'll take over the rest"I told her taking her face in between my palms.
- I watched her eyes dart across mine with uncertainty. Her lips were pursed in deep thought.
- "Am sorry I can't "she declared.
- A muscle ticked in my jaw in anger.
- "Then you leave me no choice, "I told her walking past her and towards the village.
- She chased after me, blocking my way with her arms stretched wide in front of me.
- "No, I can't let you do this.Please.It would kill my father" she told me.
- "How do you know if you've never tried!"I blurted out.
- She frowned in confusion, before shaking her head in defiance.
- She called as I walked past her, overcoming her barricade easily by shoving her lightly.
- "Please don't. I'm going to reject you as my mate!"
- She shouted.
- I felt the air freeze leaving only the both of us.
- "What did you just say?"I asked in disbelief, unable to believe what I had just heard.
- "You heard me. I said that am going to reject... "
- My body moved before I comprehended and the next thing I knew I was toppling over with her. Her head hit the rock so hard she lost consciousness.
