Chapter 6

• ZARA'S POV
• The shock must have been so evident on my face because the next thing I knew, his lips were widening in a triumphant smile.
• The rest of the announcements made at the pack house were rushed and everyone was dismissed to their various destinations.
• My father had stepped out to meet his Beta leaving just me, Luna, and Kane alone in the room.
• I busied my hands by swinging the knife out in front of me trying to jog my memory about where I could have seen such a weapon.
• During the meeting, my father had discussed at length how the three members of the pack that had been stabbed straight in the heart, had been ambushed during their night patrol and there was no trace of any attack except the knife which was left as evidence and more as a warning, judging by the interesting symbol they had carved on the chest of all the bodies.
• It baffled and shocked the whole pack because this was the very first time such an attack had gotten to our pack. So he had to call in the best werewolf hunters in the whole city. And unfortunately for me, it had to be Kane.
• "Kane, why didn't you tell me that your mate was this beautiful?"
• I jerked around at the sound of Luna's footsteps behind her.
• I spun around to find the beautiful woman smiling brightly at me which unnerved me.
• "Hi, my name is Luna. His fairy godmother of the sorts" She said extending her hand out to me.
• I eyed her hand skeptically before I took it nonetheless.
• "So what do you think of him?" she said, raising her hand to cover up her lips almost like she was whispering a secret to me.
• I frowned in confusion.
• "What do you mean?"I questioned, glancing at him from the corner of my eyes. He was standing so rigidly behind us with his hands clasped behind his back.
• Luna rolled her eyes back with a knowing smile.
• "Well, not trying to be nosy or anything here, but on the night of the full moon, you guys mated right? I can tell by the burning red mark underneath all that cluster of hair on your shoulder."
• I winced as she talked too loudly.
• "Please, please do not try to act smart by trying to get us to be together" I snapped.
• She recoiled in surprise at first, then her lips widened in an amused smile before she threw her head back in laughter.
• My mouth grew wide in surprise.
• "What's so funny? What's wrong with your people ?"I said, directing the question to Kane who stepped up instantly with a deep frown.
• "I won't appreciate you trying to insult my aunt.No matter who you are" he warned.
• I took a step back at the brunt of his threat.
• Luna raised a hand to hit his chest, hissing.
• "Don't scare the poor lady. She's still trying to understand what exactly has just happened. It seems she's just a fledgling" she commented, staring back at me with a knowing smile.
• I opened my mouth to speak but was stopped when my father walked into the room. This time he was alone.
• "Father" I called, stepping back as he settled into his chair, I helped him hold his walking stick as he settled on the couch, putting pressure on his right leg which had been damaged during the war.
• "Alpha Kane, I would like to thank you personally once again for coming over to help us" my father spoke up giving him a grateful smile.
• "I understand Alpha Hale. I would gladly help you. I believe that all werewolves should stick together against the common threat. The hunters" he stated.
• I grimaced at his silkily spoken words.
• "Please I hope you enjoy your stay here for the time being. Until everything has been sorted out. I hope that wouldn't be too much to ask if you could both stay over for a couple of days. Our mating ceremony will be starting soon and I would like you both to attend. and who knows you could find your mate there..." her father trailed on giving him a wink.
• He sent a knowing smirk in my direction and I avoided his gaze.
• "No not at all. We would be happy to attend."Luna answered.
• My mouth grew wide.
• "Father..."I let out an awkward laugh.
• "Do you think it's a good idea for them to stay over? What if he has a matter waiting for him back home?
• What if.."
• "...no no I understand your concern but am perfectly happy to be here"He cut me off, giving me a wide boyish grin.
• I sent him a warning glare.
• Luna let out an awkward laugh to lighten the mood.
• "Now that's settled maybe we could head over..." she trailed off, giving my father a curious look.
• "Yes, yes. Zara, please show them to their quarters and take them around. "My father ordered.
• "But.."I began, protesting.
• "It's better if you do the tour, Zara," he said giving me a questioning glance.
• "No, no sir, I don't think that would be okay, what would her fiance think?"Kane asked giving me a mischievous grin.
• My hands fisted at my sides in anger.
• "What fiance?" my father asked puzzled.
• "But..." he asked genuinely surprised for the first time, then a knowing smile crept up on his face,
• brightening his features.
• "Never mind. I think our stay here will be worthwhile" he stated with his attention trained on me.
• My father let out a laugh.
• "Yes, it will be. By all means, Zara please show them the way" he instructed.
• My shoulders slumped in defeat.
• "Okay, Dad. Come on let's go" I said quietly leading them away.
• As soon as we were out of earshot of my father down the halls of the building's top floor, I pulled him towards a corner.
• "What was that? Why are you here?"I snapped, my voice lowering to a whisper.
• "Why did you lie about having a fiance?"He returned.
• I hesitated.
• "That's none of your business"I retaliated.
• "Why couldn't you just find another pack to hover around? Am sure there are multiple packs that my father could have called. what makes you so special? You didn't even come with any men or warriors.
• You just came with just your...lady...aunt and that doesn't seem intimidating at all" I added, blurting out.
• He took a menacing step towards me until my back was up against the wall.
• "Do you want to see me be intimidating? "he said, his voice transforming to a low growl as his eyes glowed red.
• I gasped in shock.
• I had never seen such a color of red. It was so bright that it looked like it was burning.
• His hand ran up my thighs tracing my panties from underneath my skirt as he leaned his body closer to mine, shielding me from the outside world with his impressive build.
• "What are you doing?"I said trying to hide the moan that was trying to escape my lips.
• "I'm trying to show you how intimidating I can be "He told me with a boyish grin as his finger slipped under my panties. I hissed as his finger slipped into me.
• "Stop, "I said but it came out as a low whisper.
• "Do you want me to stop? "he said in a hushed whisper so close to my ear.
• "Kane "I whispered.
• He dug his finger deeper which elicited a moan from me as I stood on my tiptoe.
• "I love the way you say my name "he growled.
