Chapter 39

• Ashford closed the door as soon as Adrian and Phoebe stepped inside. He held a box in his hand—the same box Phoebe had dropped earlier. Adrian helped Phoebe to a chair and tried to comfort her; she was breathing heavily, and tears threatened to fall. Her hands were trembling more than he had expected. His sister was terrified.
• Luna bent over Phoebe and held her hand. "Don’t worry, Phoebe. Nothing will happen to you."
• Phoebe slowly nodded in approval of what Luna had said, then she glanced around.
