Chapter 5 Pregnant

  • The doctor stared at her, amused by her question.
  • "Ms. Blake, you can check it out," he replied politely.
  • Aurora fearfully tore it open and glanced at it. Her hand shivered. That was when she realized she had been sweating. Her blouse was soaking wet as she held the result in her hand.
  • Tears ran down her cheeks. This was what she had been afraid of. The reality stared at her in the face.
  • "You are six weeks pregnant, ma'am," the doctor stated. He could see she wasn't ready for the pregnancy.
  • Instead of answering, Aurora closed her eyes momentarily, and tears streamed down her beautiful face.
  • The doctor, studying her psychology, knew she was bitter, and the thought of being pregnant had only added to her present predicament.
  • "Do you want an abortion? But the man who got you pregnant needs to sign," the doctor advised. She still had the option of aborting the baby.
  • "I don't know the man," Aurora blurted out. She immediately regretted it. She shouldn't have let him know what happened to her.
  • The doctor knitted his brows. This wasn't part of his job, but strangely, he seemed concerned about her without reason. Why was he going to the extreme for her?
  • "The more reason you should abort the pregnancy. But I wish you wouldn't," the doctor advised. He felt pity for her. No wonder her hand had shivered when she was about to open the envelope containing the result.
  • Aurora thanked him and said she would sleep on it, then decide what would be best for her.
  • "Feel free to reach out to me," the doctor said, offering her his business card. Reluctantly, Aurora accepted the card and left.
  • She quickly hailed a taxi and went away. She didn't want anyone to see her at the hospital.
  • What was she going to do now? She didn't know the man who got her pregnant, nor was she financially buoyant enough to take care of herself and her unborn baby.
  • That evening, the doctor called Aurora again and asked to meet her at the City Restaurant. He pleaded, and Aurora agreed to meet him at 8:00 p.m.
  • **
  • Two days later, Rosa went to call Aurora out of her room.
  • Aurora was going to resume work the next morning, so she wanted to help her prepare.
  • When Rosa entered the room, she found it empty and felt something wasn't right. The room seemed deserted.
  • She looked around and found a note on the bedside table.
  • It was from Aurora.
  • She was dazed when she read the content of the message. She sank into the bed and started sobbing.
  • Why didn't Aurora confide in her before taking the steps she took?
  • When Rosa's mother arrived and saw her daughter, she was surprised.
  • "What's making you sob, Rosa?" her mother coaxed her.
  • Rosa didn't say anything but handed the note to her mother.
  • Rosa's mother read the message. Her eyes became dark as she glanced at her daughter.
  • What kind of message was this?
  • Why would she think so poorly of them?
  • Rosa's mother became somber. Had she done something to make Aurora feel uncomfortable? Or had she said anything that made her feel unwelcome?
  • For the rest of that day, Rosa, her mother, and her brother were unhappy. They never expected that things would end this way or that Aurora would one day leave them without a genuine reason.
  • Four years later
  • Aurora Blake walked out of the airport in a blue suit and pants. She wore dark glasses, and her hair flew as the breeze blew.
  • She held her kids, one in each hand, and looked around her. The city was still as busy and bustling as it was four years ago when she left.
  • The people were the same, and the climate had not changed either. But one thing had changed: her personality.
  • She had accepted what life had given her and learned to be strong and determined. She had become stronger and wiser than she was four years ago.
  • Her boys looked adorable. She wondered who their father was. The man must have been some handsome dude who was capable of making heads turn in his direction.
  • Other passengers kept staring at the two boys, many touching their chins, blowing kisses, or waving with smiles.
  • Aurora liked styling their hair in two cuts, making them look charming and commanding. They had thin lips, full-shaped round foreheads, V-shaped jawlines, medium and pointed noses, big eyes, and fair skin.
  • Aurora often wondered how handsome her boys were. She would look around, hoping to find someone with similar features, someone who might be their father or a relative.
  • "Mum, is this our city?" Tim Blake asked. He was the eldest of the twins and sometimes acted like the eldest to his identical twin brother, Lee Blake.
  • "Yes, sweetheart. We'll be home soon," Aurora assured as she hailed a taxi and loaded their luggage inside.
  • She gave the taxi driver the address to Rosa's mother's place. She had left without a genuine reason, so she felt she should go there first before finding her own accommodations.
  • Rosa soon heard a car horn stop in front of her home. She peeped out to see who it was and saw a handsome little boy step out of the car.
  • She couldn't help but admire how handsome the little fellow was. Next, another boy, looking exactly like the first, stepped out. She squinted, staring seriously out the window.
  • Her mother noticed and asked her to stop poking her nose where it didn't belong. She could go out and see who was arriving.
  • They lived with neighbors, and it could be one of them having a guest. But suddenly, Rosa jumped and screamed, "Aurora Blake!!"
  • Rosa's mother and brother rushed forward and peeped out too. They saw Aurora and quickly opened the door. When they saw Aurora pay the taxi man and turn to face them, she threw herself into Rosa's mother's arms.
  • "I missed you, Aunt," Aurora said, her eyes becoming teary. Rosa's mother held her in a long hug while Rosa went to the quietly standing boys and led them inside.
  • "Are you Miss Rosa?" Lee Blake asked, looking forward to meeting his mum's best friend.
  • Rosa nodded and said yes. Aurora turned and said, "There's a lot to catch up on." She watched as Rosa carried Tim on her shoulders and her brother carried Lee on his.
  • She dragged a few pieces of luggage, but Rosa's mother said her son would return to bring them in. It was a happy reunion with Rosa and her family again.
  • The twins were embraced by Rosa's mother, who couldn't express her happiness at seeing Aurora after a few years.
  • "Where have you been?" Rosa asked.
