• "Thanks to your Alpha, you're getting better. He hasn't left you, which has been very helpful. I'll check in on you later, my dear." I don't look up or turn away from Cain. I just nod, and she leaves the room quietly. When she leaves, I shuffle back to bed to make room. I don't even have to ask Cain to get on the bed. He just does it on his own, putting his arms around my waist and resting his head on my chest.
• We lie there in silence. The doctor must have given me something to help with the pain, because I fall asleep while holding Cain close.
