Chapter 5 Dilation And Curettage
- As a sharp needle pierced the skin at her neck and the icy liquid entered her bloodstream, all the strength abruptly drained out of Ruth. Limply clutching at the man's tall figure, she slowly slid to the ground.
- “I beg you, Aiden. Please don't abort our baby. I beg you...” she implored him weakly with tears streaming down her face.
- It was as though someone had a hand around her throat, and she couldn't speak any louder.
- However, Aiden turned a deaf ear to her fervent pleas, his jet-black eyes blanketed with a layer of frost. In the next instance, he ruthlessly declared, “An outstanding child will need an outstanding mother. Not only are you filthy and despicable, but you're also vicious. As such, any child you have will be evil like you, so it's better to just remove it before it's born!”
- Then, he turned to the doctors and nurses. “Why are you all standing there twiddling your thumbs? Get her away from me!” he snarled.
- Upon hearing that, the few doctors and nurses hurried forward and apprehensively hauled Ruth away from Aiden.
- While Ruth's body slumped down, her heart sank as well, dropping to the bottom of the abyss.
- Her fingers that were clutching the man's shirt were pried open one by one before the nurses transported her onto the gurney and bound her wrists and ankles with cold leather strips. Rendered motionless, she could only howl like an injured animal. “Ahh! Ahh...”
- Subsequently, she was wheeled into the freezing operation theater. The moment before the doors closed, she stared at the grim man outside the operation theater with red-rimmed eyes as though wishing she could skin him alive. “You're truly cruel, Aiden Lane! Even a vicious tiger would not hurt its cubs, yet you're even more heartless than a wild beast!”
- As the doors of the operation theater closed with a thud, it seemingly wrenched them into two different worlds altogether.
- While staring at the doors of the operation theater, Aiden's tall and solid figure shook slightly.
- No one noticed that the knuckles on his clenched hands had turned white from the excessive force.
- Nor did they notice the sweat that had beaded on his forehead slowly trickling down his chiseled jaw.
- Hmm? Am I worried about her? Haha, that's impossible!
- The man gave a derisive bark of laughter. In the end, he did nothing. Spinning on his heels, he simply strode away...
- Meanwhile, in the operation theater...
- Trembling all over, Ruth gazed bleakly at the white lights overhead. Tears trickled down the corners of her eyes endlessly.
- Do you think I can't do anything about it just because you won't agree to a divorce, Ruth Adams? Mark my words—I'll make you regret the title of Mrs. Lane!
- She abruptly recalled the words Aiden snarled into her ear that day.
- Hah! He said he wants to make me regret the title of Mrs. Lane, and he has successfully done it. He has truly accomplished it! This is probably how stark regret feels like, huh?
- “Ruth!”
- A familiar voice rang out beside the operating table.
- Taken aback, Ruth turned her gaze in the direction of the voice. In that instance, she felt as though she was hallucinating.
- “Sadie!”
- “Surprise! I'm still alive! You didn't expect that, huh?” Slipping down her mask, Sadie sneered down at the woman lying on the operating table.
- Then, in a mere whisper, she murmured, “Back then, I got you into Jackson Smith's bed the night before your wedding. I deliberately sent the pictures of both of you in bed to Aiden before jumping off a three-story building and calling him for help. Then, I blamed it on you and claimed that you wanted to kill me to keep your affair under wraps. “While he was then wholly repulsed by you, he had no choice but to marry you because of the shares in your hands... What a pity that he has merely been putting on an act with you in the past three years. I'm going to be his wife in truth, and he doesn't even want his own child so that he can be rid of you to marry me instead. Aren't you tortured now?”
- “So, that's the truth of the matter!”
- Ruth's eyes went wide. While a tad shocked, fury blazed within her.
- Gritting her teeth, she thumped the operating table, wishing that she could rip Sadie to shred. “You're truly ruthless, Sadie Adams! Aren't you afraid of karma?”
- “Haha... Why would I be afraid of karma when I didn't even mind jumping off a building to be Mrs. Lane? Well, I have no other choice. I'm the daughter of a prostitute and have no shares in Adams Conglomerate, so how could I have defeated you if I hadn't worked doubly hard?”
- “You're insane, Sadie Adams! Go out! Get out of here...” Ruth snapped, her voice breaking.
- Livid, she wanted to get up and fight her, yet she had no energy at all.
- As her lips curved into a cold and malicious smirk, Sadie brandished the curette in her hand. “Keep still as I remove the baby from your uterus now, Ruth. Otherwise, you won't be able to have children anymore if I miss and damage your endometrium...” she drawled nonchalantly.
- “N-No! Don't hurt my baby! No...”
- The moment the curette pierced her body, unspeakable pain assailed Ruth that she trembled violently. Sweat dripped down her face that was as pale as a sheet, and she promptly passed out...
