Chapter 2 Mutual Attraction Like A Dry Faggot On A Blazing Fire

  • Ruth had no recollection of before she passed out, nor had she any inkling of whatever transpired after she lost consciousness.
  • When she woke up, she found herself lying on a huge, white bed. However, there was no sign of that disgusting, portly old man next to her.
  • With trembling fingers, she lifted the covers and dipped her head to glance down at her bare body, only to be greeted by the sight of bruises littering her once fair and creamy skin. All at once, it became evident that someone had ravished her roughly.
  • Ugh!
  • As the countenance of that lascivious man flashed across her mind, she got a goosebump on her scalp, and her stomach churned. Before she could even dash to the washroom, she puked her guts out while propping herself over the edge of the bed.
  • A moment later, she registered the sound of water running in the bathroom. And through the glass window, she could vaguely make out the silhouette of a tall and sturdy man.
  • Soon, the sound of the shower stopped, and Aiden strode out with a white towel wrapped around his waist.
  • He was tall and well-built with perfectly sharp features shining as bright as the sun, precisely like his namesake, the Celtic god of sun and fire.
  • “You're finally awake, huh? Mr. Zeal was very happy with your service last night that he even gave the three plots of land in his possession to Lane Corporation,” he remarked casually.
  • Subsequently, he picked up a cigarette from the coffee table and lit it skillfully. Throughout it all, a sneer played on his lips.
  • Meanwhile, Ruth's petite face was as white as a sheet. She bit her lip hard. Tears obscured her vision and rendered his figure blurry. “So, I was really sullied by that disgusting man last night?”
  • “Sullied?” Aiden quirked an eyebrow, a smirk tainting his expression. “I would say it was mutual attraction like a dry faggot on a blazing fire.”
  • Upon hearing that, Ruth closed her eyes as tears poured down her cheeks; she could even hear the splintering of her heart into a million pieces. Shaking her head as though she had lost her mind, she demanded repeatedly, “Why? Just why... Aiden, please tell me why you're doing this to me!”
  • “What do you mean why?”
  • All at once, Aiden's gaze turned cold. Snubbing out the cigarette in his hand, he yanked her toward him and abruptly lifted her chin, his expression savage. “Because you're despicable, filthy, and ruthless! I'm utterly repulsed by you!”
  • “What exactly have I done that you detest me this much, Aiden?”
  • The hatred in his eyes felt alien to Ruth, and a chill enveloped her as fear struck.
  • “Stop feigning innocence here, Ruth Adams! Back then, it was because I believed in this innocent face of yours that Sadie ended up in such a sorry state today!”
  • “Sadie? Isn't she dead?”
  • “Of course, you hope that she's dead. However, God was gracious, and He took mercy on her. Which was how I found out that you, Ruth Adams, are actually such a malicious woman! Sadie discovered the affair between you and Jackson Smith the night before our wedding three years ago. You were afraid that it would come to light, so you pushed her off the building to keep her from exposing you! Do you know how hard it was for me to suppress my revulsion towards you and marry you back then, Ruth Adams?”
  • “What are you talking about? I don't get it! I don't understand even a single word of it! I didn't have an affair with Jackson, nor did I push Sadie off a building. I...”
  • “So, you are still denying it, huh? Let me make this clear to you. From the moment you signed the share transfer agreement, you were no longer of any value to me! As such, I'm also sick of acting as the loving husband!”
  • After saying that through gritted teeth, Aiden whipped out a document and tossed it at her face. “Just sign this divorce agreement!”
  • As Ruth stared at the divorce agreement, her head started buzzing with a million thoughts, and her blood ran cold. In a voice brimming with despair, she questioned, “Aiden Lane, did you marry me just to get my shares of Adams Conglomerate? Were the three years of loving marriage all an act? Have you ever loved me?”
  • “I've never loved you even once.”
  • Aiden held his head up arrogantly without sparing her a single glance.
  • “Oh, is that so?”
  • Chuckling coldly, Ruth tore the divorce agreement into shreds and tossed them into the air. “But I love you with every heartbeat, and I've loved you ever since I was a kid. I will never sign a divorce agreement even if it means my death!”
