Chapter 4 Remove The Baby

  • Subsequently, Ruth had a long dream while she burned with fever.
  • In the dream, she was wearing a white wedding gown and walking toward Aiden step by step. As she continued walking down the aisle that was paved with a red carpet, it suddenly turned into a bottomless abyss.
  • “No!” she shouted hysterically as she curled into herself, shivering violently.
  • “She's awake! The patient is finally awake!”
  • An unfamiliar voice drifted into Ruth's ears. She blinked her eyes open, only to be greeted by a vast sea of white—white bedsheets, white walls, and men in white jackets.
  • So, I'm in the hospital, and God didn't grant me my wish to die?
  • “Since she's awake, make preparations to wheel her into the operation theater.”
  • The arrogant man was still wearing a frigid expression on his high horse as he fixed his cold gaze on the sick woman.
  • “The operation theater?” Having just regained consciousness, Ruth was a tad bewildered. Gazing at his chilly profile, she instinctively grasped his arm and inquired cautiously, “Was it you who brought me to the hospital, Aiden? In the end, you still relented because you couldn't bear to see me suffer, right? But I'm fine, so don't worry. It's just a fever, so I don't need an operation.”
  • “Worry about you?” Sneering, Aiden shook off her hand contemptuously, his eyes radiating disdain and scorn. “You think too highly of yourself, Ruth Adams! As I said, from the moment you signed the share transfer agreement, you are no longer of value to me. So, don't dream that I'll continue acting as the loving husband like before!”
  • His cruel words were tantamount to two sharp slaps across Ruth's face. As they struck her, bone-deep agony and embarrassment pierced her.
  • Haha! A man who no longer loves a woman is like a kite which string has snapped and could never be found again. Ironically, this man's love has never been for me!
  • “Since you're not worried about me, what's the meaning of wheeling me into the operation theater?” she asked persistently, raising her red-rimmed eyes to look at him.
  • Enduring the excruciating pain, she clenched her hands hard.
  • At that moment, a doctor in a white jacket hurried forward and explained, “Mrs. Lane, Mr. Lane wants you to be wheeled into the operation theater for a dilation and curettage immediately to remove the baby as soon as possible because...”
  • “Stop yakking. Wheel her into the operation theater right away and remove the baby!” Aiden urged impatiently, cutting the doctor off.
  • “What? The baby? I'm pregnant?”
  • Ruth was surprised at first, but on the heels of that, her limpid eyes went wide. She gazed at the man dazedly, her pupils dilating from terror. In a shaky voice, she asked, “I'm pregnant with your child, yet you want to abort our baby?”
  • No wonder I've yet to have my period this month! I thought that there was a problem with my endocrine system and was planning to consult a doctor, but never have I expected that... I'm actually pregnant! Only God knows how much I wanted to have a child with him in the past three years. Alas, nothing works, and I failed to conceive until now.
  • I'm now pregnant at long last, but I haven't even got the time to rejoice. This cruel and merciless man wants to abort our baby! No, I can't allow that to happen! Never!
  • Leaping out of bed as though she had gone insane, Ruth simply grabbed whatever her hands could reach and threw them at the doctors and nurses. “Stay away from me! Stay far away from me! I'll kill whoever dares to touch my baby!”
  • The doctors and nurses promptly dodged. They dared not take her by force, so they could only persuade her. “Calm down, Mrs. Lane. This baby must be removed, so please cooperate with us.”
  • “Stay away from me! Stay far away from me! You're all monsters! All of you are monsters! Don't touch me... Go away! No one is allowed to hurt my baby!”
  • Ruth continued lashing out at them.
  • The reins on her emotions had snapped, and she roared at the doctors and nurses at the top of her lungs, her eyes blazing scarlet.
  • At some point, a knife appeared in her hand. She swung it wildly as though everyone was her enemy.
  • Aiden massaged his temples that were throbbing from the racket. His patience ran out, he coldly strode toward her on his long legs and restrained her in short order. Then, he instructed in a cold tone voice, “Give her a sedative.”
