Chapter 11 The Posh And Fancy Foxhole
- Homme Gardens had always been the most upscale residential area in town. Boasting lush sceneries and the best security one could dream of, the exclusive enclave offered the most gorgeous night views in town.
- This was where Sadie had lived for years. She laid out Aiden's shirt and slippers in the living room before glancing at her watch. Sneering, she opened the door. “Ruth, you're always so punctual.”
- Ruth stared at her blankly before her gaze traveled behind Sadie toward the living room.
- The sight of a pair of men's slippers in the hallway and a familiar shirt on the couch pricked her eyes.
- “You've been hiding here for the past three years?”
- Ruth's voice shook as she entered the room.
- “Well, I guess you can't really call it hiding. It's more like Aiden is protecting me from your claws.”
- Sadie crossed her arms as she leaned against the door frame. She wore a smug and cunning expression on her face. “You know how much Aiden loves me. He was worried that you would try to seek revenge on me, so he faked my death. In the past three years, he's only been your husband on paper. I'm his real wife and this is his home. You probably didn't know that he's been shacking up with me while you spent lonely nights pining for him.”
- “Enough!” Ruth screamed as she covered her ears.
- Aiden's white shirt on the couch mocked her naivety.
- After all, a husband's betrayal was one of the biggest tragedies that could ever befall a woman.
- I have nothing now. I don't even have that baby anymore.
- Sadie walked toward Ruth, who had been standing in the middle of the living room.
- Her legs looked perfectly fine.
- Ruth scoffed at Sadie's slim legs. “I guess your legs were never broken, huh?”
- “Of course. Aiden always said that I have a pair of legs made for a ballerina. How could I bear to break these beautiful limbs?”
- She stroked her legs as she cackled. “Though it's necessary to pretend otherwise to keep Aiden's sense of guilt that I get to live life like a princess.”
- Ruth's body jerked. She clenched her fists and gritted, “Sadie, you b*tch! Aren't you worried I'll expose your evil self to him?”
- “Expose me? Oh my god, what a joke! Do you think he'll actually believe you over me?”
- “I-I'll make him see your true colors!” Ruth announced weakly.
- “Save it, Ruth. Aiden's been disgusted with you for a long time. If he had loved you even a little bit, he would never have sent you to another man or made you abort your child. Did you tell him about the curettage operation I arranged for you? Or how I made it seem like you had slept with Jackson? Did he believe you? I'm sure he didn't, or you wouldn't look so pathetic now, would you?”
- Ruth pursed her lips as she couldn't rebut the sad truth.
- Sadie had been right. Aiden refused to believe her.
- Back when she had first been wheeled out of the operation theater, she had already complained to Aiden about Sadie's actions. He ignored her complaints and chalked them up to her insanity.
- “Ruth, don't you pity yourself sometimes? You gave him Yver Corporation on a silver platter, crossing both your parents in the process. Yet, Aiden still doesn't love you, and you couldn't even protect your own child! If I were you, I'd go and die!”
- “Hahaha... Why does everyone wish me dead? What did I do wrong? Why must all of you force me to die?”
- Ruth clutched her head as she screamed in a frenzy. She had no more tears left to cry. Glaring at Sadie, she thundered, “I'll die, Sadie, but I'm bringing you with me!”
- With her sore bulged eyes, she pulled out the fruit knife from her purse and charged toward Sadie.
- In her haste, she knocked a vase and some pottery to the ground.
- Strangely enough, Sadie's boastful self had retreated into the form of an innocent lamb. She lay down on the floor and began crawling backward in a pitiful state. She cried out in fear, “No, Ruth. Please don't kill me. I'll leave Aiden, I promise. I swear...”
- A large palm had wrapped itself around Ruth's wrist, and the knife in her hand fell to the floor. She felt herself shoved to the ground, and her back landed on the broken pieces of the vase. The shards pierced her blouse and cut into her skin.
- She was floored by the pain.
- “Ruth, you're mad! What do you think you're doing?”
- Aiden was glaring at her, his face full of coldness and hatred.
