Chapter 69

• “A break-through is so important to healing invisible wounds.” She knew he understood these words more than most. He reached out and wiped the lone tear that spilled over. That simple sign of compassion left her shaken. His eyes met hers, and she could see the feelings he had for her in them. She just wished he could see them himself. He slipped his sunglasses on his face, shielding her ability to read more from them, and held his hand out to her. “Come walk me to the pits?”
• When she just stood there staring at him, confusion etching her face, he answered for her by grabbing her hand and tugging it so that she was forced to go along with him. They walked in silence, both occupied by their own thoughts. So many questions she wanted to ask remained unspoken on her lips, for this was not the right time or place for them. She placed a hand on her stomach to settle the nerves fluttering there.
• “Why do you seem so nervous when I’m the one that’s going to be hurling myself around the track at two hundred miles an hour?”
