- Her bravado faltered slightly at the warning look in his eyes. She withdrew her hand from Sam's knee and scooted toward the edge of her seat, her eyes never wavering from his. They stayed like this for several moments, the music in the club background to their little drama. "You're playing hard to get, Annabelle," he admonished.
- She glanced over at Haddie, whose face was impassive but whose eyes told her she couldn't believe what was unfolding. Annabelle stood up to face him, squaring her shoulders to him, defiantly raising her chin. "And your point is?"
- He tsks at her, shaking his head, and took a step closer. "I hope you're enjoying yourself because it's quite a show you're putting on here." He put a finger under her chin, lifting so her eyes met his. "I don't play games, Annabelle," he warned, his voice just loud enough for her to hear, "and I won't tolerate them played on me." Sexual tension radiated between the two of them. The air was thick with it.
