Chapter 6 Pregnant by Accident

  • Abbie shifted her gaze to look at the man. "What's that about her?"
  • Liam said slowly, "I have to apologize to you for the mistakes Olivia committed. She was the one who spread the rumors a month ago."
  • Abbie was quite surprised that he knew. However, with capabilities like that, it was only reasonable that Liam would know about it.
  • "I don't mean to blame her, but why have the rumors circulated for an entire month?" Abbie was confused.
  • She always thought that Liam would do something about the rumors, so she didn't make any moves. Unexpectedly, even after a month, the man still hadn't done anything.
  • Liam said calmly, "It was just a rumor, so I don't mind it that much."
  • With Liam's position, even if he truly were a jerk, countless beautiful ladies would still want to flirt with him.
  • Abbie thought about it for a moment, then said, "You should clear it up. I don't want my reputation getting ruined."
  • Liam's gaze was dark. "You're bothered about that?"
  • "Of course I am. After all, there's nothing between us anymore. We were secretly married for so long, I can't let everything be ruined after we get divorced."
  • Liam looked at the distant yet elegant woman, a deep sense of unease welling up in his heart. He never noticed it before, but now, he realized that she didn't want anything to do with him at all.
  • If it weren't for her limited capabilities, she would have tried everything in her power to suppress the rumor that had been circulating for the past month. That must be it! Liam felt extremely uncomfortable, but in reality, he was overthinking it. Abbie was just too lazy to deal with it.
  • "You don't care about the 70 million on the divorce agreement because you're Dr. Lindsay, is that it?" He was a man of few words, but he couldn't help but talk more to her.
  • Abbie was a little surprised. "Mr. Henderson, I don't remember you being so talkative."
  • Liam pursed his lips. "Answer me."
  • Abbie shrugged. "It's because we already agreed on it in the beginning. I don't want anything extra."
  • The man's gaze darkened a little. "You could ask for it."
  • "That's not necessary. I know it's just the price you paid because you're satisfied with my role as your wife in the past. It's fine as long as you show your appreciation." The woman's voice was distant and void of any longing.
  • Liam's voice turned a little colder as well. "If there's anything you need help with in the future, you can come to me."
  • "Okay." Abbie didn't decline the offer, and it was only then that Liam's expression relaxed a little.
  • Truth be told, Liam was the most powerful figure in the upper-class society of Jamswell. He was offering her help for free, so it would be a waste if she declined.
  • "Also, Olivia isn't my first love. She's just—"
  • Before the man could finish speaking, they had already arrived at the hospital. The car Olivia was in was right beside theirs. As soon as Olivia got out, she looked pitifully at Liam.
  • "Liam, about my illness…"
  • Abbie raised her eyebrow. By the looks of it, Liam had told Olivia his reasons before getting into Abbie's car. Perhaps he didn't want Olivia to be too worried about her illness. After all, most doctors would only tell the family members about the patient's illness.
  • Why did Liam say that Olivia wasn't his first love? Abbie had never seen the man treat her like that.
  • Still, as a responsible doctor, Abbie generously talked about things that were helpful to the patient. "If you find a suitable heart whose owner is willing to donate it to you, you can become a normal person again."
  • However, it was a difficult feat to find a suitable heart. Any normal person wouldn't be willing to give their heart to someone else, anyway. They wouldn't be able to survive that, so this was an impossible task.
  • Liam's gaze darkened a little. The other foreign doctors had told him the same thing. Olivia's expression soured even more, and her breaths quickened.
  • "Of course, there is another way. My friend has been researching man-made hearts in recent years, so if they discover a way, we can try transplanting one in your body, Miss Newman. However, it will take some time for the technology to mature, so you can wait in the meantime."
  • A hopeful expression appeared on Olivia's face. "Really? How long will it take?"
  • "A few years, probably." Abbie left.
  • When Abbie was gone, Olivia looked pitifully at the haughty man beside her. "Liam, are you still thinking of her?"
  • Liam glanced at her. His tone was gentle as usual, but his voice grew a little colder. "That has nothing to do with you. Just rest and focus on recovering."
  • Olivia clenched her fists tightly. "Okay, I'll do my best not to make you worry, Liam. I'll be good."
  • "Yeah." Liam nodded calmly. Later on, Abbie never attended the consultations in person. Instead, she asked the head of the hospital to replace her.
  • This way, Liam would be given due respect, and Abbie could escape any unfavorable circumstances. She was probably as decent as an ex could be.
  • Two months wasn't that long a time, but nor was it too short. Abbie never met Liam again after that, but now, she felt waves of discomfort crashing upon her body.
  • "Urk…"
  • She had thrown up all the breakfast she had eaten this morning.
  • "Dr. Lindsay, are you okay?" The doctor beside her looked at her in concern. "Are you pregnant? You don't look too well today."
  • Shocked looks appeared on the faces around them. To them, Dr. Lindsay looked so young, and she was so cold too, so they never expected her to be married already. Was she even pregnant?!
  • Abbie shook her head as she wiped her mouth with a napkin. "I just have a bout of stomach problems recently."
  • "Oh, no wonder." The others didn't think too much about it.
  • None of them noticed Abbie discreetly checking her pulse. It truly was… a sign of pregnancy.
  • Abbie refused to believe it, but she had never misdiagnosed anything. She was pregnant, without a doubt. In those ten years, she had led a harmonious life with Liam, but they had always taken security measures except for that one night.
  • Abbie put a hand to her forehead. How could she be so unlucky to get pregnant with his child? If that were the case, the ties between her and Liam would get even more complicated unless she hid the fact from him.
  • She hoped that the secret would stay concealed. However, that afternoon, Abbie bumped into Liam at the office. The man sat upright on the couch, and he didn't look any different from what he did two months ago. However, there were additional elements of scrutiny and probing when he looked at Abbie.
  • "Are you feeling under the weather?" Liam asked tentatively.
  • Abbie forced a smile. "I just have stomach problems, that's all."
  • "You should get it checked."
  • "I'm a doctor. I know my body very well."
  • Liam was insistent. "Even doctors make mistakes sometimes." Abbie knew then that she couldn't avoid the checkup this time.
