Chapter 10 Revealing Dresses

  • On the other hand, the wedding between two of the most prestigious families, the Marshall Family and the Querin Family, was held at the Grand Century Hotel. Needless to say, almost all the richest and most powerful people had been invited to attend the wedding. While the bride was getting ready for her make-up, she was surrounded by her besties, who kept her company. "I'm so envious of you, Dannis. You're going to be the happiest lady in the world for marrying Gordon. After all, the Querin Family is only second to the Henderson Family in terms of influence and power in town."
  • "What are you talking about? The Marshall Family isn't bad either. Furthermore, Dannis is a decent lady, and I think she deserves to marry into the Querin Family."
  • Dannis' friends expressed just how envious they felt for her. After all, the Henderson Family, the Marshall Family, and the Querin Family were the three most prestigious families in Jamswell. In fact, the marriage between Gordon and Dannis, might even strengthen the combined power of the Marshalls and Querins and make them a greater force to be reckoned with than the Hendersons.
  • After applying the lipstick, the bride smiled and said, "Liam was not a bad choice, but ever since he got together with Olivia, I've become out of his league. The only man who deserves me is none other than my fiancé."
  • "Yes, yes, yes." Everyone else was jealous as they wished they could be born with a silver spoon like Dannis, and imagining themselves in her place was the only thing they could do.
  • As the elder daughter of the Marshall Family, Dannis was the apple of everyone's eye. In fact, she was so popular that Gordon even had to compete with her other admirers before finally winning her heart and marrying her.
  • "Has anyone here seen Abbie?" Dannis looked around her and asked as soon as she was done with her make-up.
  • Upon hearing Abbie's name, one of the socialites rolled her eyes upward. "Abbie? You mean the Marshall Family's illegitimate daughter? Come on, I nearly forgot about her name."
  • "This is an important day for you, Dannis. Why bother your illegitimate sister?"
  • Dannis' eyes brightened with glee as she curled her lips sarcastically. "Of course, I'm going to make her look like a clown. I want to show her the difference between a legitimate child and an illegitimate child. My dad told me she'll be here, though."
  • While a legitimate status was something that the upper-class society took seriously, many rich people were against the existence of an illegitimate heir. Therefore, when they heard Dannis' words, they all gave her an affirmative response. "Don't worry, Dannis. We'll know what to do when we see her. We'll be sure to make her day happy." They especially raised their tone when uttering the last few words of their sentence.
  • It was then that Dannis heaved a sigh of relief and realized that she didn't have to do everything by herself. Someone will take care of my trouble for me. Abbie is just a nobody who will live in my shadows forever.
  • "I heard someone is looking for me." A lady's soothing voice was heard at that moment. Although it might sound soft, it was loud enough for everyone in the room to hear clearly. As they looked in the direction of where the voice came from, they saw a lady wearing jeans and a casual-looking shirt. While her casual outfit created a distinct contrast that separated her from all the bridesmaids with heavy make-up, her cold aura and unwelcoming gaze somehow grabbed everyone's attention in the room.
  • "Oh, we were just talking about you when you showed up, but seriously, I didn't think you would come here in such a casual outfit. It's my wedding. Don't you know that?"
  • "So? What's wrong with wearing a casual outfit?" Abbie calmly asked.
  • One of Dannis' friends mocked Abbie. "This is a wedding between the Marshall Family and the Querin Family. We all know you're poor, but shouldn't you at least wear something decent here? Why would you abandon your pride and make a fool out of yourself like that?"
  • Her words were soon echoed by another socialite. "Alright, that's enough. Just give her a break. She probably couldn't even afford to prepare a gift, let alone buy a dress."
  • "I wouldn't be surprised about that. After all, this is a grand wedding between the Marshalls and the Querins. Every gift here is at least worth millions. She is not going to able to get that kind of money even if she sells her organs."
  • While the ladies made fun of Abbie meanly, Dannis only chuckled and waved at her half-sister. "Don't worry, Abbie. You may be the Marshall Family's illegitimate daughter, but for the sake of our father, I had some dresses prepared for you."
  • The girls were stunned upon hearing that. "Wow, I can't believe you prepared some dresses for your illegitimate sister, Dannis. That's so nice of you!"
  • "Of course, she is still a part of the Marshalls after all. So, I have to make sure she doesn't embarrass us. Anyway, be sure to keep my sister entertained later, okay?" Dannis sounded like she was signaling her besties to do something bad to Abbie. After hearing Dannis' words, the ladies looked at each other, seemingly understanding the meaning behind her words.
  • Nevertheless, Abbie didn't seem to be interested in their conversation, only reacting with an indifferent expression.
  • Soon, Dannis clapped her hands to summon a few people as they came in with various types of dresses. "Take a look at them, Abbie. Pick one that you like."
  • Then, one of the socialites walked closer and picked up one of the dresses. It was a black dress with a low cut and backless design. Despite the fabric's top-notch quality, it was clearly a revealing dress that would draw the attention of all the guests, especially the men.
  • "Tsk! Tsk! Excellent sense of fashion, Dannis! Now, this is the kind of dress that'll suit Abbie."
  • "Like mother like daughter. That's very kind of you, Dannis."
  • They all look the same, don't they? That's indeed very 'kind' of you, Dannis. Abbie looked away after taking a quick glimpse of the dresses. "No need for that."
  • "Oh, come on, did you just forget your place? You're an illegitimate daughter in the family, so who do you think you are?" One of the socialites mocked Abbie.
  • "That's right! So, what're you waiting for? Put it on! Put it on because Dannis said so!" Soon, Abbie was surrounded by other socialites who had nothing but disdain and contempt for her. Then, some of them even took the most revealing dress and gave it to Abbie while the others tried to strip her clothes and made her put them on.
  • Nevertheless, despite the intimidation she was facing, Abbie only stood there and responded with a sinister smile on her beautiful face.
